NY chicken lover!!!!

Apparently cottage cheese is the greatest chicken treat ever. We bought a new brand that we didn't particularly care for, so I brought the container out to the chooks this morning along with other leftovers. Captain Morgan went over to investigate, tried it, and completely lost his gentlemanly manners. Instead of dutifully calling the hens, he immediately began chowing it down as quickly and silently as he possibly could, and left them to their rice.

I've just caught up on the thread. We were at DH's family reunion this weekend. We got home to find our tree that needed to come down was down and filling up the yard. A branch was broken on the next tree over and had to be taken down. This week is going to be tree detail for DH. I'm going to make pickles, can tomatoes, and freeze beans.

Pharm- I'm so sorry for your loss.

Ginny- I am glad the wedding turned out to be memorable!

May I ask what brand of cottage cheese? I feed some to my chickens on occasion too.

Anyone coming to the Bath poultry show with a nice SQ Silkie Rooster? (White or Black) Going thru what has managed to survive Coons and me (sigh) and I have two Blue Roosters, one is a leaking Silver, the other Red. Ick. :(

I also have a Bantam Ameraucana pair available (plus an extra Roo, lol) $10 pair. Rooster may be split for Chocolate, from Jean Ribbeck (Pips N Peeps) They're my breeding pen rejects, pet Q.

Pair of Cayuga Jrs $25 or trade for unrelated pair. ;p

Tell me I am not the only one sitting here going "When are you going to LAY???!!!" Sigh. I have a Cream Legbar Trio, Chocolate Orp pen, Silkies, etc. Zilch Nada zippo. I even have two silkies who are broody on NOTHING. I'm tired of hatching Ameraucanas, even if I accidentally kill half and Coons eat another third I still will have too many to overwinter, lol

No I'm waiting on the CR's and they're at the very least six months old. I've got younger Dels I think are nearing laying. The Rocks are nice but I can't afford to feed them for half a year til they lay. Winters coming and they'll just be starting. If they ever start.

No, I am too. I have a group of April 2011 girls I'd like to sell to make room, but if I do that I won't have very many eggs. So I am waiting patiently for my April 2012 to start laying, but so far have only one pullet that has started - found a tiny green egg the other day. =) My australorps and a white leghorn mix have huge combs and wattles but no eggs yet. =(

WHEN I have more laying, if anyone is interested I'd probably like to rehome a few girls - nothing fancy, no show quality anything. Only of interest to someone who just wants a few laying hens from easter 2011. Thinking about BoB (big orange broody - Maybe NH?!), a grey easter egger (that lays brown eggs), and a few others TBD. Maybe my Blue Laced Orange wyandotte (lol). Oh and Dot Matrix, the dark brahma. And Puff Puff, who is a gigantic black poofball of unknown heritage. LOL.

Where is the rain? I put off the driveway guys because of this big rainstorm but have seen no rain yet. I should just order a pile of buckets and do it myself but my driveway is huge. =(

I don't show but leave that to others. I try to keep things pure but have to admit my EE';s are the best layers and I'd like more of them. They're going on three years. Nice eggs at least 2.0oz. A large egg is plenty for anyone.

I have a scale and have been weighing eggs. Some nice sized and some smaller.

I am moving towards all EE's, Naked necks and a few 'others' that I just like. I've found I like the smaller LF birds, especially when it gets hot in the summer. They do fine in the winter also and I don't come home to big fat panting chickens huffing around the yard. LOL. I do love my leghorns, even with the big combs, so added a few of those again recently. I agree, I don't need super large eggs, but my husband misses those gigantic leghorn eggs - it's amazing how such huge eggs can come out of something that size!

I dont' have any NN's but would like to have a couple of hens. Just haven't put my time in it yet. I'm always open to trades btw. I've prefer chicks since they are easier to quarantine.
