NY chicken lover!!!!

So I have been talking to someone in NJ about getting the chicken laws changed on here, and he is asking people for help to get an online petition signed, I just thought I would repost it here for those of you interested in signing it and maybe you have friends in New Jersey who could sign as well. http://api.viglink.com/api/click?fo...ens-as-pets?&jsonp=vglnk_jsonp_13512067350464
I signed

So I thought I had scared my roo away today (not on purpose), I was just trying to give him a hint that he needs to stop attacking people before its off the butcher. He took off into the woods, didn't see him for hours. He finally came back when my silkie roo started crowing - if one starts they both crow back and forth until their lungs are out of air. LOL So he's back. Guess I'll have to keep an eye on him this weekend and see how he does.

One of my silkie pullets in my juvenile bbs pen is laying! I cannot wait to see who it is! Operation Stalk the chickens, will begin tomorrow. As soon as I find out who it is, she's going to the breeding pen.

my Paso Fino is a firecracker... she needs no encouragement at all to go forward...if anyone makes kissing noises near her, she goes faster, I go riding with a friend who has a lazy Palomino... and he needs to continually "kiss" him along to keep up with me and Veronica... even tho' she has to take 4 steps to his 2... I keep telling my friend to quit making kissing noises, find some other way to get Pal moving... cuz Veronica hears it and off we go! with her, it's an effort to get her to walk. Paso's like to prance and rack ~ she's a racking fiend! she can take one hundred steps and only go about 5" forward. but to get her to "walk"... is all arm and leg work for me, unless I take her for at least a 4 mile run first... while she's not suitable at all for beginners, she is the best horse I've ever had...

my long wait is over! my last pullet (besides the bantam) has finally laid her first egg! it's a nice light bluish green. so, now I only have the 21 1/2 week old bantam to wait on... probably another 6 weeks or so...

Congrats on a new egg & new egg layer ..sounds pretty ..my eggs are all brown ..feeding them finally paid off ..it seems like it takes forever ..

Hi all! We are outside Rochester in Wayne County. New to Chix in April and are wayyy in love. Have Silkies, Barred, Americauna, Faverolle, Silver Laced and Reds. (apologizing for my spelling!) Question for you all, we have a large water feeder that hangs in the coop, how do you all prevent the nasty stillness in this? Should I try water additive if I am raining organic free range?

Welcome To BYC... Im in Onondaga County ..Sounds like you have a nice family

Take a look at her vent. A hen that is laying will have a pinky, moist vent and the space between her pelvis will be wider than one that is not. A non laying hen's vent will be dry, whitish.

wow, what a gorgeous day! and nice to be home early enough to enjoy some free range time with the gang! I made them a Pie with leftover whipped squash, and the broccoli from leftover broccoli soup, topped with black oil sunflower seeds... it's what I will use to lure them back home when it's time to come in...

Love the pictures Cheeka!

Adora ~ Excited for you and your laying hen! Speaking of the breeding pen - Duncan has certainly turned their coop into one! LOL

Went to another lesson today and it went much better than last time! Rode a new horse, and it was his first time being used as "lesson horse". This is the horse I had the pleasure of riding today, he really is something special. And he is SUCH a good boy!

What a wonderful organization. I have nothing but admiration and love for people who run animal rescues. Casey's so beautiful.
