May you have warm words on a cold evening,

Happy New Year Everyone!

I'd like to wish us all, healthy, happy chickens; lots of eggs; some sweet chicks; peace in the coop; plenty of feed; and NO predators! For the chicken keepers health, happiness, fulfillment, love, and lots of laughter in the new year.

Well I can on to wish everyone a happy and prosperous new year, but I suspect anyone with Silkies already knew that. Hope we all get twice as many eggs as last year with half as many chickens.

Love ya two cookies,

Rancher

New naked necks have entered the world!! =)

I don't have any Naked Necks, but If i did I'd knit them little scarves to keep them warm.

Just added a water heater thing to one bucket yesterday. I got a gift card from my BCF, best chicken friend, and used it to buy a heater.

No lights in the coop yet, but have lights around my yard and garden. Christmas lights. I only have one cord run do to put a light in the coops with be tricky. I also only have one outlet to use. I'll figure something out or the BR's will not lay till spring.

When you go to the store, buy an outlet "cover" that converts one outlet to 4-6 outlets....it plugs in and you screw it in place like the regular outlet cover, so it doesn't pull out of the wall like those "3 tap" adapators do. Best invention EVER for those of us who live in old houses that don't have enough outlets to run modern life.

When I add light (not adding it right now), I do the same as Cass. Only in the AM so the light doesn't suddenly snap off, leaving them in the dark.

On the rare times when I'm late shutting out the light, I shut out the light and then switch on a flashlight for just a few minutes while everyone scrambles to find a roosting spot. Last one up, flashlight goes off. It usually doesn't take long.

Wishing everyone health and happiness in 2013!

I had thought of that but there is only one outlet and I like to keep the "yard" lights on all night and then turn them off in the morning. If I have a light in the coop to come on early say 6am I need it to got off at 7am and the yard lights to go off as well. Then I need the yard lights to come on at 8pm. Plus I need the water heaters to stay on 24/7.

I have to run another cord from the power strip. I should have done it sooner I know but now it means deep snow. I'll figure something out.

I wonder if I put the six plug thing inside the coop and then run cords from that on timers. Or I could screw the six plug thing to the side of the coop and put timers on the outside.

Happy New Year to all my fellow addicts!

My cheeps are still mad about the evil white stuff but have come out to get the goodies in the runs...except for my silkies. Girls are laying around a dozen a day give or take so my egg customers are still happy. Hoping for some more meltage today before we go in the freezer the rest of the week. I have to say that the woods coop we built is working well for ventilation and dryness.

I keep looking at my incubators and keep saying...not yet! This itch is getting bad, especially when I see baby pics on here! Have a good day all!
