NY chicken lover!!!!

Don't think so I feel starter food randomly around in it. Watery feeling and she is able to tighten it all up.

What you may suspect as water, may be fluid. I have to agree with Stony. It just appears to big and out of place for an impacted crop. Also once a birds crop is stretched out it's will likely have crop problems the rest of its' life.

I hate to be the one to say it, but no one else is going to. This chick that has been slowly dying for a week, I don't think it was meant to live. A broody mama would have already killed it. I'm sorry to be brutally honest, but someone has to be.... so I'll be the one,
x2 (but I was too chicken bawk bawk to say it aloud)

If it were my chick I would have put it out of it's misery as soon as food withdrawal yielded no results. And I would have cried the whole time I was doing it. Probably couldn't have even watched myself do it, actually. That is the down side to those cute little chicks. They don't all make it, no matter how much we want them to. And sometimes pulling them through something odd like this just yields a whole life of problems (albeit a shortened life) (Been there, done that...hated every minute)

Tater tot breakfast casserole:

1lb browned breakfast sausage
12 eggs
1c milk
1 can cream soup of choice
32oz bag tater tots
1c shredded cheese of choice

Layer sausage in greased 9x13 pan. (If I have any left over veggies from the previous night's dinner I spread them over the suasage) In a bowl mix together eggs, milk, and soup then pour over sausage. Then arrange tater tots on top of everything. I hand place them instead of pouring them on. Bake at 350* for 1 hour. Put shredded cheese on top the last 10 to 15 minutes before removing from the oven.

The recipe is so simple and easily adjusted to use different ingredients or added ones and it still turns out great. This morning I used duck eggs and leftover home made soup instead of milk and condensed soup. It was a hit!

So lets have the recipe. I 've been printing them out to give to folks who get my eggs. Can't hurt to give them recipes that use lots of eggs.

BTW, please tell Travis I've been getting empty pickle buckets from the school and making nest boxes with them. They've been working out fine. I just made two new ones the other day because the two that were in the coop have broody hens on eggs.

I do wash them but there is still a pickle smell somewhat. The hens don't mind though. Tell him I said thanks for the idea.
If your hens lay in the pickle buckets, does this mean you get pickled eggs?

I really want tetra tints but haven't seen any

I would be shot though I think if I brought even more chicks home...after the ones I ordered come in the mail, plus the ones I'm hatching we have the potential to have over 40 chickens...eeek

I want to make some deviled eggs but I'm having some issues peeling the hard boiled eggs. I know this is a problem with fresh eggs and you're supposed to add baking soda to the water. Do you know how much to add? I don't think I'm adding quite enough...

i add a glug of vinegar.........

ok so I separated my little girl again and its not pine shaveings she's eating I don't think but her chest feathers. i'm at a loss here on what to do I've tried oil and even soaked her food in oil. not feeding don't seem to do anything. Massaging just moves water and stuff around I feel nothing hard cept food every now and then. here is latest pics of her. tried some egg instead of regular starter food. that's her poo on ground from today but man this is just getting bigger and bigger it seems no mater what I do. Two times I've massaged her and she spit up some wasn't black but brown. I haven't tried to make her throw up cause I don't really know how and have a feeling I'd screw it up and kill her.

This chick looks miserable. Impacted crop should have resolved. I think that you have done all you could have for it. I think that it is time to do the humane thing..........It will be hard. I think that we have all had to do it. I am so sorry..........

Yeah I did it. Sadly she wasn't going to make it. We had three people crying my 7 year old son 5 year old daughter an me. Wife was only one not crying. Kids said we had to burry her so we laid her down a few feet from a tree I planted last year. So my first flock is down to eleven chicks now. Gonna have to find another chick for my even twelve I want. We had some chick time had all 11 out in livening room. Well gonna get off here and watch some tv. Thanks for all the help and advice.

J law, sorry it turned out this way, it is very difficult to care for these little chicks, and then find there is something that you can't fix for them. You gave it your all. Please accept a hug.
