NY chicken lover!!!!

This is not true. I remember someone saying she could sex eggs by holding a pin on a string over the egg. If it moved back & forth or in a circle indicated the sex of the chick. Of course, that is not true either. Wives tales.

Probably the same lady that claims she can determine the gender of a human baby by doing the same pin on a string over the mother's tummy. I remember hearing about this when I was pregnant.

The lucky contestant has been in the Camp Crock-Pot hot tub for several hours now. I discovered that I only have sweet wines on hand, so he's in beer and water instead, with some shallots, some carrots, some celery, a lot of garlic, and a random assortment of herbs and spices. He smells better than he ever did when he was alive!

We have done the whole roasters (from the store) in crock pot with just some season salt rubbed over the skin and about 1 cup broth. So juicy, tender and yummy. Hubby may soon learn how to process a chicken, hubby went after the EE roo again this morning for crapping on him from the rafters. Males of all species occasionally lack brain cells.

If the coop was only $400-$500 bucks I would pay it but these are coops that's start at $1000, which is NOT an amount I want to spend to begin with. But again if I were to spend that much, what's an extra 200 when you're spending $1000. I think I'm going to try the pallet route. If I can find free pallets and only buy the wood necessary to make the coop draft free it may cost me next to nothing.
Have you been checking Craigslist? Search through the Farm & Garden section for Syracuse or some of the surrounding areas. I seen a couple used sheds, one of them 12x12, for sale in Cortland area I believe. May cost a little to get them properly moved, but then you have a plenty big enough shed too for whatever use.

Yea I've been on it everyday. Someone in Kirkville has a few made and will make what I want for a little under $500, which I may do, just still trying to weigh what my best option is.

Lol I've been checking my Craig's list for used sheds or part but nothing around me down here I may have to try pa or northern Ohio. Did find the free chicks.

I like our little community here. I like the fact (and participate in) that people on this thread take the time to type out answers for newbies, even tho it has been said 55 times earlier in the thread instead of admonishing new people to "use the search feature". Folks on here, who know how to use the search, even find the previously posted and put a link in their reply for the newbie. I type fast and hate waiting for searches, so I just type it out again. Everyone has their own way of helping and no one gets snarky. I like the support we give each other for non-chicken related events happening in each other's lives.

I don't like BYC's policy on discussing things that moderators do or don't do. But I don't own this space, they let me participate rent free, so I keep to the rules of use. I do LOVE how the software ****'s certain words. Makes the place a little less hostile and more family friendly.

Read this earlier, and wanted to make a point to go back and quote it to say, that as a relative newbie to BYC, I am on the receiving end of the generous advice, suggestions and encouragement from more experienced folks on here.

I participate on a fishing thread in Canada (yes, TOB is actually a decent angler, LOL!) and there I am one of the "old timers"....and I echo the same philosophies that Cass relayed, above.

Every now and then someone might get feisty, and there are so-called "pot-stirrers", but it is hard to interpret the tone and meaning of type written words, and some times things are taken way out of context and folks get offended or insulted.

Here on BYC, I have learned so much and love that everyone has their own unique personality and different style to share. I thank you all for your patience with my gazillions of questions! Thanks in advance for the future inquiries I'm sure to throw at ya!

Hammered another million nails today for sheathing on the coop's (storage) frame. Roof framing goes up on the storage section tomorrow. Hoping for better weather. This "spring" has just been ridiculously wretched from a weather perspective.

Yah nook, pretty sure that little one is a roo. He's already got a pink comb and little red wattles at three weeks old. Plus he's slow feathering. Still, want to wait a week more or so to be sure. =)

Here's a group shot of most of the county boy chicks - the little banties ran underneath so there's three or four hiding banties not visible. Everyone was running from the crazy lady with the camera. Not enough feathering yet but in a few weeks we shall see!

The black LF in the front is one you want to watch. It's looking great for it's age and will probly be a really nice brown red or dark lemon blue.
