I'd love some call ducks, but don't have a pond and don't think I have the energy to provide water in a kids pool. Is there an easier way?

Sue, I've been reading that ducks don't have to have a pond or pool to be happy. I'm banking on that. I'll be raising mine for meat and eggs, and will provide a kiddie pool in the summer months, but that is all. Saxony and Welsh Harlequins from Holderread's. Can't wait for those first eggs!

Yes, but they need water every day to rinse their heads. With the winters here, providint water for that is difficult in the middle of winter. I'm open to suggestions on how to get around that though.

Just give them a bowl of water everyday then. Rinse and dump it when you need to.

We have a pan about 5 inches deep and 30 inches across. I will be using this for our ducks in the winter. I am going to have to figure out if those dog water bowl heaters will keep it stable with it on it. Not sure yet. If that doesn't work, than I will use a smaller pan. I don't think getting sufficient water to our ducks will be any more difficult than what we are doing for our chickens (and alpacas) every winter. Filling and cleaning a kiddie pool on the other hand seems it will be a major pain!

When I had Cayuga ducks we had one of those rubber buckets meant for livestock. Even if the water freezes it can be broken out easily and is deep enough for them to rinse their nostrils out.

yes thats all you need. i have a low 3 gallon tote for my calls to swim. but the swimmimg water for calls is mostly for breeding. my runners get 2 gallon bucket. runners dont need water to breed.
i also dont use water heaters of any kind for any animals. i dump everything at night. and refill in morning. i have been leaving the calls water in at night. to make sure they can breed. so i can get fertile eggs now. they started laying feb 1st.

i have mine in outdoor rabbit hutch home made 8x2 feet. its covered with clear plastic to keep snow out. i cover wire floor with hay.

If you want silkie eggs, I'm heading towards Rochester tomorrow to pick up an incubator. My only silkies laying are BBS & they throw mostly splash & blue chicks. They are great quality... here's a pic of Gizmo:
