Yup. He wants to lay claim to the eggs other laid. Kinda like fathers who say "that's my boy" like they gave birth to him. LOLCan anyone tell me why my rooster sits on eggs in the nest box!?! Iv caught him doing it multiple times! He jumps in...sings and happy little song and then sits on the eggs..i finally got a pic of it yesturday but its super blurry because when i get close , he jumps out and runs away lol..
that is a good boy. Roosters do this and guard the nest when a hen lays. Good boys take care of their girlsCan anyone tell me why my rooster sits on eggs in the nest box!?! Or don't wear your picnic shoes into your coop area. It's really just that simple. The only people who will have a problem are those who only have one pair of shoes to their name. If that is the case, let me know your size and I will pick up a pair of flip flops for you to wear at the picnic so you don't have to worry about bio-security in either direction. (I never assume that we are all of equal economic status because it just isn't the case in any group of people)
Yes, Ice and ice chests for the food you brought, chair(s) for your group to sit in, any folding table that fits in your car are all appreciated. The first year I brought an ice chest full of ice for drinks. I can do so again if someone is bringing community drinks....but last year pretty much everyone brought their own fav drink.
People who had a shorter distance to travel to the picnic usually brought the cold or hot food. Those who were traveling a long distance usually brought paper products, rolls, chips and/or plastic cups and eating utensils. But just because that is what has been done in the past doesn't mean it has to be done in the future.

Actually some chickens are gender confused....they say that all species have instances of gender confusion, that it isn't unique to humans. So I guess you have a roo that isn't sure who HE is.
Also, the egg song is used by chickens to locate the flock, so it may be that he is trying to get a hen to come back and sit on the clutch of eggs to ensure his genetic make up is preserved.
I had a hen singing the egg song in the front yard. She got out there and forgot how to get back. I had to go get her and return her to the flock because they didn't care she was missing. Yup, you guessed it, it was the one and only MEAN MARGE. (No wonder they didn't call back to her, they were glad she wasn't around pecking at them)
I washed it with soap & water & put some Bactrin on it ( antibiotic ointment .)
I read somewhere that peroixide can harm a cut .
.Heres some info from http://www.truthorfiction.com/rumors/h/hydrogen-peroxide.htm#.UZBdycqK1dw
" For many of us, hydrogen peroxide was one of the first things we put on a cut or a wound, but that is less recommended nowadays. The reason, according to numerous medical sites, is that there is a downside to the hydrogen peroxide as well. It also damages healthy cells that are needed for the wounds to heal and hinders them from getting to the area where the healing needs to take place. The HealthFinder publication of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services says don't use hydrogen peroxide on a wound because it interferes with healing. The U.S. Gymnastics team has followed the recommendations of researchers and uses soap and water for cleansing wounds and not hydrogen peroxide. The National Safety Council's First Aid Pocket Guide (1996) says "DO NOT use hydrogen peroxide It does not kill bacteria, and it adversely affects capillary blood flow and wound healing." The Mayo Clinic gives the same advice."
As the cut is on my face & I dont want it to scar ..I didnt use it ..
I wash / pat it a couple times a day with a moisturizing soap . As I have found that cuts heal faster if they are a little moisturized ..
Note to self. Don't put hands by or infront of ranchers food and don't sit next to him while eating. He cant tell his food from his hands and don't want to chance it.Of course if I cut off an appendage I'd go to the emergency room or like the time I stuck a fork through my finger.
I do understand your case with a scrape on your face. As a man such a scrape means bragging rights.Though how I got it would be different.

DW and I are thinking of coming depending on if I have to work the weekend that it's planned or not. So far the spots being listed are 5+ hours it seems so we may have to camp out at someones place/rest stop, tent or in the van or we may have to get a hotel. I know I wont be bringing any pets cept maybe a cochin or two if all three of these are roos. 4 weeks old and having red wattles comeing in. That is not something I was hopeing for but should have figured with craigslist said "appear to be hens". I had wife pick them up when I was at work so I didn't see them till that night. They are hatchery chicks so that means they had to order 15ish chicks strange these "appear to be hens" was only ones listed. Wife aint too happy if they are roos cause she likes the look of cochins. Oh well worst comes to worst I just free rehome them.I drove more than 8 hrs to buy chicks in PA, surely folks can drive 3 or 4 hours to spend the day with their friends. The journey is half the fun.

Came back from a 36 hour trip to NYC. Pearl still hadn't gone broody so I'm going to pick up the things I need to throw an incubator together.
Anyone else not really ready for the cold tonight? I had the windows panes at the barn taken out, I put my raspberry bushes outside last week, I started moving my started seeds outside...
UGH! Cold go away!
