NY chicken lover!!!!

Forgot to mention, (only because I found this kinda funny and I always have to share something funny), with all this talk going back and forth between my husband and I about moving again - he knows I'm not happy about it and knows I really don't want to move again because of how much I love it here. Well the other day he sent me an email of about a dozen houses for sale in CT, said "These are just a few of what I found for sale in CT". So I start opening up the files and I'm like ok, this one is nice, a lot of acreage, enough bedrooms, and Wow, a barn!. Open the next one, Eh, this one looks alright, and Wow look at that it has a barn! Open the third one and I'm like oh this is cute, newly remodeled inside, and WOW another barn! I go downstairs and I'm like Ummmm what's up with the barns? LOL He says, I figure thats the only way I can get you to move so I better start looking for what property has the best barn rather than house. Men! LOL

When is it due to hatch? I'd give you one or two of mine but They're not due for another week.

This is the only one of Pearls Fertile eggs to survive, oddly enough it's the one she laid the day you gave her to me! Since it pipped today any time in the next 8-24 hours it should hatch. I'm hoping for something other than a white silkie. :p

Ohhhh I'd be shocked if it was white! LOL The roo she was in with was a lavender split so it'll come out like a chick I had from December, black with almost a speckled white or "dark partridge look" to it if that makes sense. Wish mine were hatching sooner I could give it a friend or two seeing as how I'm only hatching silkies.

What a sweetheart <3

So I'm not sure if I mentioned but I took the run I made off the duck house and replaced it (for now) with a wire pen that I had bought the rabbits last summer. Figured this would give them more room to run around, plus I can move it around easily to different spots around their coop so they're not marking up one part of the lawn every day.

Loved this idea and it's been working out great! Until today.....Today of all days! it's pouring rain out there and one of them escapes! Not that it went far, but I wanted to catch it and place it back in the pen. Well imagine my son and I out in the pouring rain trying to catch a single duck who is running around our yard so quickly we can't catch him. I decided it would be better to get the others in the coop, shut the door, and then leave one panel open to the pen so it would run back into it. Got him (or her) in, closed the pen back up, couldn't really tell where it excaped thru but thought it was all set. Nope! He escapes again! This time I'm on my own, I go out there with this little kid umbrella, this time he's running ALL over the yard - across the driveway, under the porch, thru my patio, I'm sure the umbrella was freaking him out but it was down pouring out there. I wasn't about to soaked AGAIN chasing this little bugger down. Finally got him, locked them up in the coop. They've had enough time outside anyway!

Two things.

1. I took a fishing net and screwed it to a long stick so I could grab escaped chicks.

B. You might consider a "hoop" run. Easy to build and not open at the top. I think with two panels you could put that coop right inside the run.

III. It's so wet out back and flooded I should have got those Khakis I had my eye on earlier this year.

Thank goodness my hens like rain. They were out at 6 am and still out now at 8 pm. I love my automatic door.....makes life easier. I can't wait till the tots can move in with the big girls. But I give the tots credit they were out in the rain today walking thru puddles that were past their knees lol

I really need to build an ark. Lol

Jlaw the best investment I made was electric netting and automatic pop door, I don't have to worry about the chickens except to feed them and collect eggs once a day :)

Trust me, if it had taken a second longer to catch this thing, my next option was to grab the butterfly net to catch him! Lol

Regarding the hoop run, I do plan to let these guys free range, and I probably should right now because the few times we've let them out the chickens don't seem to bother them, heck, the chickens even fly over the wall to the pen toget the bread my kids give to them! But I'm just being a big baby and I'm scared that if I let them out I'll never see them them again. :-/ and if that were to happen I would be absolutely devastated!!!
