NY chicken lover!!!!

A short intro for myself as well, I am the Hubster of the BarnSwallow. I am currently in the Army as a welder and machinist with just under a year left. We have 25 Cuckoo Maran chicks coming this next week so we are very excited since we have never had this breed before. We hope to meet some of you in the near future and will try to make it back on here more often.

. Lots & lots of movement and very heavy veining. Can't wait to see al the little fuzzies !!!

Awwwww how cute Stony! What are the grayish ones? Love the coloring on those!

Here are some more pics of the ducks I just took with my good camera.
Any signs on what I have as far as any drakes?

Not yet - mine are March quackers, and my sole drake's plumage is just now differentiating itself from the girls'. Are they quacking yet? Here's a good way to tell, and it's reputed to be pretty accurate. Pick one up and walk away from the others. If it's a loud, sharp "quack," it's a girl. If it's more of a hissing, softer sound, it's a drake. It worked with my Rouens, and also with my KCs.

A girl could go crazy waiting to hear back from Rancher! Thankfully this chick is rather quiet.

Well I'm retired not dead.

I'm a busy person. Had to get my hair cut and had to wait an hour since there was a line. Then I expect to start a new job next week. I hope this one works out. Not to mention taking care of my chickens.

Candled the eggs under the SLW but they don't look good either. It's early yet. No new eggs under the three br hens so I put them back on the roost.

I don't know what I'll do about this roo. He's been beaten by the BM rooster and cowers. I'll have to figure a way to keep them apart.

Not a single egg from the orps and CR's today either. I've been keeping them in since the Orp roos are mean to the young ones and injure them. I had to put one chick down and I'm not going through that again. I think it's a light problem with the coop and run. I'll also switch them to Egg producer pellets.

I think you mentioned yesterday that you prob. will not keep all the turkeys, if you deside to part with some of the bronze, i might be interested when and if you deside...BTW if you want more eggs to try to hatch, just PM me.

I do want to part with some of them - I figure I'll get them out of the brooder and feathered out so they're ready to roll. I'll let you know!

The four babies are doing beautifully, including the little peeper I thought was a goner. I think four may be it, as I'm not seeing any pips on the others. Mrs. B is great with her chicks - I love watching them.

Welcome to all those new to the thread, the lifestyle and those returning to us.

I just did a week on Jury Duty. I STRONGLY recommend pulling out all the stops to get off a Civil Lawsuit jury. I have rarely been so very bored in my life and I sat through Tele-training for Day Care for 12 hours every year for 10 years.

I found one of my newly hatched chicks dead on the floor of the coop today. I am NOT amused, since it looks like I killed it when I opened the coop door last night, in the dark. Darn chickens roost in the rafters and loosen the light bulb, so no light when I flicked the switch. That hen that hatched some of them and I stuffed the rest of under is a LOUSY momma. I can't see where she has gotten off the nest since they hatched, so they poor babies are wandering out of the nest looking for food and water. I am going to do an "apple cart turnover" in the coop tomorrow so the new chicks can have a place they can come out from under momma and get food and water, unmolested by others in the coop.

And this rain can stop. For a while. I want to get out in the garden and see what came up.

I take a flash light with me even though there is a light in the coop. as for water and food. I put a waterer right on the floor or a bowl and fill it each time I check on them. I keep every one on grower till I move the chicks to a new location. All the EE's have stopped brooding and one has even gone back to sitting.

I wear a glove and take all the eggs. NO MORE EE CHICKS! NO MORE BM CHICKS!

Good evening all. Rough day at work but all went well. We found a barely alive chick today 7 weeks so we took her back inside and she did well after some vitamans and fluids food and oregano oil, along with ACV. So the rest of the girls will stay outside since they are well but she will stay inside for awhile since she was the slowest growing one. I feel bad my mean silkies who once attacked the babies are now caring for them and my loud mouth who thinks she's a rooster (she isn't she lays large eggs for a silkie) made it known that one of the babies was gone, I looked at her like I know I took her inside. My baby is calling for them, and when she sees us she jumps at the cage trying to get out. From not even opening up her eyes unable to stand to jumping and talking. I feel bad for her but love her remarkable recovery.

Well I hope the night finds everyone well take care!

I'll tell ya, my chickens, they're up to no good today. They're plotting something and I don't like the looks of it. I left a little while ago to pick up my son and right before I left I caught this chickie up on my porch railing giving me the stink eye...

So I pick up my son and head back home to find one of the BRs and my BO hen running back to the house from down the road! And all I could think of is them saying in their little chicken heads is "Quick!! She's home, she's home! Hurry, get back to the yard!" They have NEVER gone into the road and now to be coming from DOWN the road, not just near it? I think they took a walk over to my neighbors and involved her hens in this master plan they've got going!

As if that isn't enough, I was just washing dishes and heard this clunk outside my kitchen window, I have a rabbit hutch down below the window that needs moving back up to the rabbit area of the yard - this is what I found: (sorry it's burry that window has something wrong with it, almost like a film that developed inside the glass, can't get it clear by washing the outside or inside.)

Something is up with these girls. It's like they're plotting an attack on me.

Is it snack Time ? Our gather & follow us around 4-5 oclock when it is their snack time ...
