NY chicken lover!!!!

Morning all. Slogged through the puddled grass to let the beasties out this morning. So much water everywhere. Dh was up half the night manning the pump. I sure do hope we get that sun promised for this afternoon. Found eggs in the silkie runs this morning. Silly girls laid them there instead of inside. My two tater tot girls were roosting with the big girls when I opened the door to let them out. The little boys were on the lower roost. So glad they are getting along now.

My oldest dd moved back in temporarily. Out of the blue her fiance called off the wedding and needs some alone time. She is in pieces. Deposits had been made, etc and so now all that is gone. He is going to have lots of alone time as she has decided to move south to live with her sister in ga and find a job that she can advance in as the one she has now is going nowhere. Its hard to see your children suffer so. Better now though then after a wedding.

Cass--glad your leg is getting better. Be careful out there.

Off to a long shift today. Hoping for a quiet day.
It is very hard to see your children suffer, but it is fortunate that she had a safe place to land. I hope everything turns out for the best.

My two little red hens are the center of attention of the two GLW roos. The other hens are taken care of, but these red hens are hussies. Noticed last night that the one is starting to bleed. Plan is to put a roo in each Eglu, move the kids from the Eglu into the coop. Hopefully tonight. Then I only need to worry about the EE roo getting after them. While I'm at it, may as well take the bully GLW roo for a little walk to the neighbor's house for dinner. I have a Golden Blue Maran, Delaware, and two Blue/Cuckoo Maran roo-lets from Tab with 8 pullets; too many boys in the hen house. Hope Luna hatches lots of little girls!
We did toss the one definite clear egg last night. Not sure what is going on in the EE egg, looks like a large, dark mass inside. That one was set a day later than the others. Anyone recommend a good site/link for comparing egg development? Everything I searched for is drawing and illustration or poor quality "How to Candle" youtube videos. I know how to do it, just don't know what Im looking for.

I didn't really know what I was doing either, but by day 4, you should definitely see some type of veins. And as the days go on you'll see development and movement. I love it, not loving this "lockdown" stage at the moment. It's driving me crazy I don't know what's going on in there LOL

I bought one from Amazon.com and one from TSC. The one from TSC is exactly like Ranchers with the handle, the one from Amazon doesn't have a handle it just has a little metal thingy at the top where you screw down the washer to adjust the amount of space at the bottom to control how much food comes out. I know TSC has the ones with the handles.

Feeling VERY stupid, as after I went and looked at mine again, I realize it does have a small eye-hole, so to speak, at the top of the screw where I can hang it. Well, DUH on me.

Pharm,

sorry about your daughter's broken heart. It is horrible to see our kids going through these very hard life lessons. I am sad for her sorrow and for yours. All those cliches sound so lame, but I do believe things happen for a reason, and she is probably better off without this young man. She will come out stronger. Meanwhile, lots of kind thoughts to you both...

Stony ,

Cute ducks and foster mom! She is at the water's edge, haha.

Cass,

Keep on healing.

MORE MUSINGS ON GRASS CLIPPINGS....I guess it is the length of the clipping that is risky, not that it is grass in the first place, obviously...as they gobble grass frequently. I guess as chickens, they nip off smaller lengths, rather than 2-4" grass clipping lengths. That's the issue. But it seems like at least a few of you use clippings in your pen without issue. I also provide plenty of grit. Grit = GOOD !

I won't be checking in for a couple of days, so everyone please take care and enjoy your feathered friends!
