Well fun day today seemed we drove everywhere a few times over today. Finally got to clean out both coops and I was disappointed in my building of the second coop. I knew I messed up some but man I had more water on floor under shaveings than I thought I would so tomorrow I get to fix some of the spots I think are leaking. So I have a fan in there and the little chickens are with the slightly older girls.
I do have a question though. I have a light Sussex that when I got her she didn't want to jump the 1ft out of coop to ground and she would stumble some. I made a ramp and she still jumps cause the ramp is only partly wide of main door. I don't have a chicken door they use my door. I noticed her limping the other day a little and today she was doing it more so I put her in a dog crate out on front porch by her self. Now for question. Should a 1ft drop be a problem for a chicken? All my other birds have no problem and they all roost except for silkies and my roo but he sleeps with the light Sussex. Actually my rooster is in the roosts now that the LS is out of coop. My lowest roost is like 16 inch tall but I have a ladder going up the rungs so like every 8 inch there is a spot to get up I think. This hen is almost as big as my rooster way bigger than my reds. But even being bigger and not using the roosts I wouldn't think a 1ft drop should be a problem for any chicken.
I checked her out today and cut some feathers around leg so I could see/feel better but didn't see or feel anything wrong. I think she pulled a muscle cause when I put her down after proding her leg she seemed to limp more. I didn't see any feathers missing on back so not sure if the rooster is even mating her I know he chases the reds around trying to get them. He is like 85% of the time around this LS but never chasing her or mounting her that I see.
And to top the night off my son just stung himself with a dead bee that was on the floor and seems he's now having a reaction. So the wife gets to take him to the ER. Guess he's now allergic to bees even though a few years ago he wasn't. Or maybe a dead bee is more potent I don't know. We was wrestling some and he planted his hand on the bee.
