Remember I told you that you could see the blue if you closed one eye and thought blue? haha Congratulations!

Well I did research (Even though I've already upped the protein in my chickens diets by putting them back on grower feed). I can across this thread on here that discussed ideas for people with chickens who weren't laying. One of the girls said ALL her hens were laying (about 15 of them). She fed them some oyster shells and salt, put some golf balls in their nest boxes and they all started laying that week. So I went out to the hardware store, bought the oyster shells, added some to the feed in their coops, cooked a dozen eggs as well, processed the shells, threw that out in the yard, and now I'm about to add some plastic eggs in their nest boxes. Hope this works.

Good luck with everything.

What does everyone do with the dust in the bottom of their feeders? I hate dumping it out. Seems like a waste of feed.

Chris
Add it to yogurt
If you have a dog crate, put her in it in the coop for a couple of days. IF you KNOW she's laying and there are no eggs in the crate.......................you've got the right girl. This is what I did, and actually watched her lay the egg, then turn around & eat it before it even dried off. Can you say SOUP !!
I mix it with water & add yogurt. The girls LOVE it !!
Agree it might be worth while to remove her from the flock so that she doesn't pass on this behavior.

Congrats on the new layer!

Evening all. Its cooling off nicely here and I am loving it. So are the chickens. Daddy Legolas has been taking the wives and children around the front yard and finding food for them. Thankfully Litttle Man and his wench are in another part of the front yard. His other two wenches are still busy being broody. Tonights menu for the hordes was rice, hummus and cat food. Dh was able to distribute it without losing any limbs. Those red sexlinks are ruthless when it comes to food. At least everyone got a nice bump of protein tonight. My cat went crazy when she smelled the cat food so I had to dig out her can. She cant eat the cheap stuff so she only gets one as a treat from time to time.

Ran out to see what dh wanted. He had peeled back the bark on a couple of logs he had laying by the silkie pen. White grubs everywhere! I made a great rendition of a roo calling his hens to food and the sexlinks and barred rock came running. The bark was like a plate the these girls feasted mightily tonight. I think the one red sexlink is going to explode as she ate so many of those grubs!

Enjoy the cooler weather folks. My diva hens are laying on the grass in front of their coop enjoying the cool breeze and the cool ground. They look like high society ladies reposed on their lounges!

Dump it into a pan (pie pan, old water pan, etc) and mix it with water. They will think that you went out and bought them a special gourmet treat. Silly birds, it's just wet feed. In this mix you can add other things.....oyster shell, garlic, crushed red pepper, etc. Or feed it without embellishments...they will eat it.

Sally your to funny. My mom stopped by to see the new egg. She said she can see the blue to :) it's so tiny. I forgot how small pullet eggs were. Edie looked like she was super proud tonight strutting around, guess I can't call her a tot anymore since she is a big girl now lol

So, I was out with the birds tonight and noticed that my favorite, the BO is starting to develop spurs. SHE squatted for me last week. I'm waiting for an egg any day. They're not the little "buds" that all my girls have, these are no kidding spurs just starting to grow.

Some one pleeease tell me they have seen a hen with spurs before. (S)he is my favorite in this years flock, and I really hope I don't have 3/8 roos.

Thanks Cass Here's a new one for me. I noticed my blue Wyandotte had some ugly looking feathers, like she's been mounted by a rooster. Problem is we don't have a rooster. So I'm in the yard with them today and I see our SS mount her. Huh?! I'm assuming she's the boss or at least thinks she is. Should I toss her in jail for a week or so? I've never seen her fight with the other girls but she's obviously been doing this for a few weeks at least. This is the first time I've caught her in the act. Chris
