Quote: You can plan it ..Leave them in till you leave . Let them out when you get back .
Today I had to go to Wegmans ..for my prescriptions ..The flock stayed in till I got home ..my son was supposed to let them out at 3:00 .They stayed in today till almost 6:00 .
When I got home ..the roos gave me a welcome ..neighbor said they were totally quiet before that ..
They got out for 3 hours today ...They are safe & all alive though

Ugh, I'm fed up with my roo. He's not people aggressive, but he is way too rough on the girls. One of my favorite girls has a big gash in her side underneath the hen saddle.
I don't think I want him to have any offspring either. He has weirdly large eye sockets. So, I'm working up my ambition to process him. If I do that I will be looking for an ameraucana roo if any one is looking to get rid of one around the rochester area.
I had a falcon on top of the coop last night. Luckily everyone was jockeying to get a spot on the roost so they weren't outside.
Hope everyone is doing well!
I'm tired and get sore, but otherwise good. I've been busy with both kids starting school and bouncing around with daycare for when I get to go back to work. I'm extremely thankful for my friends and family that have helped me out. They are a blessing. Doctors say its ok for me to go into labor next week and I said it's up to the baby.
AQHA, it's ok to have emotions. It's the first time! And, I bet they will be delicious as soon as you can't tell who is who.
Good news, Tab!
Saw a coyote yesterday. Just trotting through the yard like it was his. Found a source of ammo, hope to buy gun today! And then the fun of learning to shoot the thing begins. My family is egging me on, but knowing them they won't be satisfied until I start doing that crazy sport where you ski a million miles, then hunker down and shoot at targets. Everything is an endurance sport for them.
Heni, I loved your neighbor story. Busybodies!

Quote: I can see not bothering for 20 min ...it would take more than 20 min to corral them ...LOL
Im just saying you could plan some ..
Hawks kill larger chickens ...also ...kill & eat & leave the carcass behind
YUMMM
These are few of the apples my dad sent me yesterday. They're from a wild tree that grows along the road just down from their house. Some had blemishes which I used in applesauce and I kept these nicer looking ones for eating out right.
Yesterday we grilled a pork shoulder roast after brining it for a few hours. I'm going to make BBQ pork sandwiches with the leftovers.
Sorry you lost a henMe too.![]()
I lost one of my hens today too. I have no clue why. Yesterday she was listless but eating. I checked her over and could find nothing wrong. Put her up on the roost last night next to her buddies. At some point she fell off and passed. Everyone else seems to be just fine, so it was specific to her.
Pharm OUCH that looks so sore
Okay folks--need some advice. This is my hen Gladys whose comb has been ripped down to her beak. Dh thinks Bill did it when he was trying to mate with her (although he didnt actually see it happen). I have her in a cage inside and have been treating it with veterimycin and neosporin. The comb has stopped bleeding now and is turning black on the sides. Should I just let it dry up and then remove it? I dont want to try it now because there seems to be some blood flow still evident. She is eating some and drinking and wants out and is annoyed that this thing is hanging in front of her face. I notice that Bill grabs the top of the hens heads to hold on while he is trying to mate with them. None of the other hens show any injury and he is still getting the hang of it. For now, he is being left in the run while the girls are out freeranging. I dont want to cull him as he shows potential as a great rooster. Dh would like to do him in now. Anyone else ever have this happen?
Featherz CongratulationsI may have a mess of chicks soon to rehome if anyone's looking - have three broodies who have been hiding little nests of eggs from me and I do NOT need any more chickens. I'll let everyone know what comes out when they hatch.
Oh, and one little EE rooster, but he's too young to go out yet.
Today is my 20th wedding anniversary - married 20 years ago at the drive up wedding window in Vegas - don't let anyone tell you that you must have a big expensive wedding to make it work!! =)
YUMMMMM your food always looks delicious
Those sound like some I have been tooWell I think I read in the bible that unless you have a big feast and a bunch of drunken relatives it doesn't count. Oh and I almost forgot there must be a brawl and the cops have to come too.![]()
We got married by a JP and had a small party after with just family. Then took off for Virginia. 37 years ago this month.
Congratulations and I wish you many many more years together.

Now watch baby will wait until after her due date to show up I went into labor early for all of mine and the only ones that came before their due date were the first one who was 2 months early and the last one who was 3 weeks early but he also weighed in at 11lbs 15 1/2 ozs. so I am glad he didn't wait until after his due dateI'm tired and get sore, but otherwise good. I am not looking forward to doing this either I am pretty attached to my birdsI just dropped 4 of my roosters off at Berkshire View and now I feel completely guitly and I cried the whole way home...ugh I'm clearly not cut out for this.....
Congrats on the little chick
Sounds like momma did a good job raising that little boy.Nature Berry Farms had one he was so beautiful give them a call and see if he's still there.
That's good news!
LOL actually that sounds like fun endurance shooting.
I'm so sorry sweetie.
How old is the EE, how big do they get again? My silkie pen will need one or two more chickens when my babies move up into the adult world farily soon. They are three and four months and the two leghorns will be too much soon and the oprington just likes being with the leghorns so where they go she goes. My poor silkies always get housed with youngins but though they are mean at first I can trust them not to cause harm, and teach the babies to go in at night and proper pecking order. I would just like to get rid of the silkies but I promised my son I wouldn't and he did pay for them and their feed and does take care of them so ugh I guess I keep, though these two are pretty decent layers and very consistant.
Congrats on your chick!
It was a good day, My brabanter is healing nicely had some homemade venison sausage potatoes and a bit of a bagel. Tomorrow's menu consist of sausage, peaches, and green squash. Sick birds always get the best food LOL! well she's right there on the deck so I can keep an eye on her and listen for her from my window. So it's pretty easy to spoil her. My two coops are well they are doing a great job composting for me such rich dark soil can't wait to build a greenhouse and plant next year. I want to put up a sign that says "Sandy's Garbage Disposal and Composting." Sandy is our top hen of everything in her eyes.
Good day at work people having drama but since I ignore it I have no clue what's going on. Just working on my skills and adding cliental.
It was my son's first day of school and he had to walk. I Ieft for work at 6:1:5am he was dressed dogs were fed and walked, cats fed litter cleaned, chickens fed and let out. He got nervous so instead of leaving at 8:30 he left at 7:45 LOL boy was he early to school. I said that is fine but remember they don't let you in until 9 and if it's really cold or rainy you don't want to be left out side. Well he did the right thing when approached by strangers. And he called to let me know he got to school ok. He then found a walking buddy on his way home who will come and meet him everyday. Then calls me to let me know he's ok. I was so pround of him i used my only tip for day and bought him a model car and grass fed sirloin steak tips. When I got home he let out the dogs checked the chickens and collected eggs! All that hard work paid off this summer.
time for homework then bed I'm beat.
