NY chicken lover!!!!

This sounds like me. I am trying to reduce classes I teach.
Took this semester off. My husband is having surgery.

Now don't know what I will do for the upcoming semester.
It is difficult to reduce teaching classes.

Interesting to note others experieince the same decisions.
I do enjoy my Silkie Chickens and spending more time
with other things. Regards, Aria

Dh told me this morning that as he was gutting Oscar, he pulled out something the shape and SIZE of an egg. Then he pulled out another one. I guess that's why he mated every waking moment!
How big are their testicles supposed to be?

Those are a Chinese super food! From what I read the size varies from chicken to chicken.

I buy them from a feed mill like Pohls. But they are cheaper at Richardsons which is about 5 minutes south of Vernon, a mile or so east on Simmons Rd. I buy all my feed & grains there. My chickens won't eat them unless I soak them cause they are rock hard. I buy the whole roasted soy. Has to be roasted or else its not good for the chickens...don't remember off hand why now. Lots of people say Oats are hard to sprout but I've always had success with them.. Oats are the best grain for chickens. I feed it unsoaked to my rooster pen, they eat anything! LOL

I don't remember if your Oscar was aggressive or not, and if that is why you processed him, but I"m not surprized he had big testes. It is preferred in big chicken breeders to use those birds because they are aggressive and will produce more fertile eggs. It makes sense. If you have a shy or laid back roo, the hens will not sit for them and you get less fertile eggs. In the long run, those shy roos line will decrease due to lack of fertility. ...but they are hard to live with if you have to be in their space every day and the poor hens get used up faster.

Those poor boys are only doing what nature intended for them to do, and are driven to reproduce. Big testes mean good fertility.

You said it, sister! It is the one option on our phone service that I would actually be willing to pay more for ... a lot more. I cannot stand telemarketers. They are persistent, and the same one will call over and over. Some time I just pick up the phone and instantly hang up, but most of the time, I just let it ring away. Rarely do they leave a message. Beware of the intimidating men that call from the police force. Those are definitely fishy and they are pushy and try to strong arm you into giving $. Real policemen discourage us from giving out personal info over the phone.

One of my responses is "I don't do business over the phone."

Another is to scream OMG!! and hang up.

Also a whoopie cushion is always handy to keep near the phone.

Or ask them to hold on and set the phone down and don't come back.

Just remember that the next time YOU call someone and THEY don't answer.

who cares??? In the 21st century we have this thing called "voice mail". Really futuristic stuff. Your voice gets recorded ....and saved for them to listen to

. Then they can return the call if they feel like it at their convenience . Amazing futuristic stuff
