NY chicken lover!!!!

Looks like I may have to pull the plug on this hatch. Only two eggs look like they're developing and I don't want to risk having to deal with only one or two chicks hatching. One del and the EE.

I don't know which is more disappointing not having fertile eggs or that I needs eggs to sell and wasted them here. I do know I've seen the young roo mounting the girls but I don't want his progeny.

We had a Hawk do a fly over ...
yesterday-
they were about a 1/2 acre from me ...in the back field / small forested area ....
When I heard the chickie alarm go off ...went running toward them ....Hawk could not miss me coming ...plowing through the leaves ..
By the time I got there ..I saw him fly off ...tried to find him couldnt ..so decided to go back ...He flew over my head & away ..
Today-
I was in the run ...when the chickie alarm went off again ...By the time I got out ...no sign of it .

Skiddy - he still doesnt like my hubby ...yesterday ...today he seemed okay when they were both in the yard ..
Maybe Skiddy is learning " <- my hubby has my permission to be in my yard - LOL

I'm super ANGRY at the silkies I let them free range with the rest of the group. I asked my son did we get eggs today he said no. Then he went back and looked again he found 4 buried eggs. Im telling you those silkies taught my girls to bury eggs. Just when I thought i alleviated this problem it rears its ugly head. UGH

Or maybe they buried the other chickens eggs ...would a dog do something like that ?
You need a cam out there to see who is doing it ...Maybe ?

It was super busy but simply stated a customer didnt want to wait throw a fit and it went south another customer stepped in and well pardon my language but cat fight. Literally she had a 7min wait and threw a fit.
No Kidding - I guess they need to grow up - sounds like something a 2 year old would do ..
I hope those 2 dont return & everyone else acts like adults ...

Silkies are evil!!

Did you know on family guy they originally had a Silkie in the son Chris's closet not the monkey? Heres a screen shot but be warned those of faint of heart or kids under 35 may need adult supervision.

my 14 week old roo bit the crap out of my hand Monday--he promptly got a swat and then wouldn't come near me. yesterday, I let everyone out of the grow out coop except him, was trying to catch him. I got him 5 minutes later and walked around with him for 5 minutes---he was not happy. I think he is gonna become dinner.*sigh* he was one of the ones I wanted to keep. so we are going to end up keeping the Sussex mix roo that looks exactly like his daddy.(maybe)

I'm learning just how evil silkies are lol! That would have been scarier than the monkey.

yeah I think so. I thought of making the silkie orange for Halloween But was a pain just to make that. Never edited a pic before. What it really needs is a freddy Krueger shirt to show how truly evil they are.

Now since silkies wear masks all year long I figure they should only show they're real face when trick or treating. See rancher is right they are aliens.

Hi all,

I am very behind on BYC -- many pages missed during the past few very busy days. Hope everyone is doing OK, Silky troubles aside!!

QUESTION: Every now and then one of my hens' eggs breaks. Today, Helen decided to use a box she has NEVER shown an interest in. Therefore, there was only a scant handful or two of shavings in it, and her egg cracked (LESSON LEARNED FOR ME: DON'T BE STINGY WITH BEDDING). Anyway, is it safe to eat the cracked eggs? Nothing has leaked out of this one, so maybe the membrane is not broken, just the shell. I check and collect eggs often throughout the day; it's very fresh, just laid in the past couple of hours.

Thanks

Have a Spook-tacular Halloween. Hope all the kiddies have tons of fun today and tonight, despite the horrible weather.
