NY chicken lover!!!!

Edit note:

I was also thinking of making a cookie tin heater like the one in the guide I found http://www.the-chicken-chick.com/2011/11/make-cookie-tin-waterer-heater-under-10.html Have any of you made any of these or do you currently use these?

Haven't made or seen a cookie tin heater, but my neighbor puts a 75 watt bulb inside a cinder block and puts the metal waterer on top of the cinder block....it worked all winter last year. This year is supposed to be colder....time will tell if it will work in the extra cold weather

Ahhh that is where your screen name comes from
I found Stony kill creek & the falls ..how far are you from that ?
There is a house in the clearing near there...is that yours ?
It looks like little blobs on the right could be chicken coops ...

I looked at my own house on Google Maps ...taken in April 2013 ....funny to see ..
No Coop ! .. if we had chickens they were in the house then ..we got them april 15 2013

Trees in our front yard ....arent there any more ....one came down on the house & the other one we took down .

we were on the back deck when it came down ..trying to cover something ..up
we saw it come down right in front of us ..over the top of the deck ..
Alls I could think of was " I hope the chickens are all right "

Bowls? My biggest problem is my girls kicking bedding around. How do you prevent them from getting the bedding inside the bowl?
I will post a pic for you tomorrow what I do with the heated water dish ...to prevent the bedding from kicking up in it

My Mom's dog thinks she is a chicken.
She is a prefect match with those 3 hens

The heated water bowls are like 1.5-2 gallon and are pretty high sided. I put them on a concrete paver and the water is still pretty clean when I get home. :) I much prefer the nipple system, but with four coops just haven't found a nipple system that works well for me in winter. I take the bowls away in spring and go back to my bucket waterers as soon as possible!

also fitting for meow
Love it, that man is crazy but in a good way. A true family man, a horsemen, farmer! God of Rock hee hee.

Back straps are a cut of venison. Right? Omg is the family okay? The house? The animals? So glad the city removed the tree in my front yard it was rotting on the inside and would have taken out my whole house. It was 3ft in diameter. Well if all is well save those branches and burn them and make ash dust bath. Lynzi how is your sick girl doing? Well im officially 32 today. I decided to move the tiny silkie coop in the big girls run. Easier for winter plus i will build a bigger run. My brabanter is a bit distraught from this but she should be ok. Off to work have a good day!

I can't think of any fall in this creek. The stonykill is probably 15 miles long, and know that certainly doesnot sound like me

wait till it hails on them. Ducks LOVE severe weather. Ours look straight up at the sky and tyr to catch the hail. Then after it is over run around like fools trying to eat all of the fallen ice

How hilarious to imagine!! You've said it b4: DUCKS ARE ENTERTAINING!

Funny someone said their birds were trying to fly out the coop and not touch the white stuff Love it. My roo flys like a majestic eagle or so he thinks.

Too funny. Play the national anthem for him!

....meow, meow, meow...meow, meow, meow, meow....

....I like tuna, I like liver, I like chicken, please deliver....

(Old jingle from the Meow Mix commercial. I am not going quite crazy yet.)

Well both chicks hatched. The one I thought was a Del is not. Both are black so I suspect a BM father. The EE of course is an EE. I can't figure out how I made the mistake with the egg I thought was a Del. Though it was a light brown egg. Could be a BM/BR cross or a BM/SLW cross.

I've separated my main Del roo George and one hen due to being picked on. They're feathers are coming in now though.

It must be fun, anticipating what will hatch out of the "mystery eggs." Sorry you didn't get the Del you were hoping for. I am glad to hear your beat up roo and hen are recovering nicely. A little time away must have been a good Rx.

Happy to hear Donovan is doing well and hope your DD continues to heal and get some rest. How is your sore throat?

GRAMMA,

Those are some wicked scary pics of the tree(s) down. I can't believe you were on your back deck when that happened! YIKES!

We got about 2" of snow or so the past couple of days. Here is the coop, looking relatively cozy in the white stuff. You can see the younger birds' newer back pen. I have to let them out manually each day and we make a little parade around to the back pen door. They know the drill. I usually let them free range a little before they go back in at the end of the day. They're good girls and know the routine well.

First snow for Chumley, Cracker and Gertie. This made me laugh. I could almost hear them:

"What the heck, Chum?!" "I dunno. I'z scared, Cracker." "I know.... let's push Gertie out first!"

Happy Birthday youngster.

So far my hatch is going OK. I tossed 2 eggs out on Sunday. The others looked fine.
