Gramma chick - YEP - that's the one I got - it is well made, thick and easy to clean. A little patience during assembly and it has not been a problem once.

Well I won an auction on Ebay for 10 + BR eggs from Terra_farms. I hope at least some hatch. I'm desperate for a nice rooster and the pictures looked nice. If I get a few to hatch I won't need to order chicks.

Now I need to find some nice Delaware. I expect to buy a scale to begin weighing birds for selected breedings. Perhaps I can go to the grocer weigh a box. Take the box home stick a bird inside. Go back to the store and weigh the box with the bird inside. Kinda incognito like.

I stick my cold hands under the chicken to warm them up ?
Im out there taking care of them & my hands get freezing ...and there is a warm chicken to grab .
So I grab my Sumatra Rooster Skiddy
I take off my gloves & warm up my hands in those nice warm feathers . in the chest to leg area
He doesnt seem to care ...& He likes me petting his head also .
Now if I could just figure out how to warm up my feet ! Chicken slippers ?

ha ha ha chicken slippers !

I have stuck my hand under my horse's mane to warm up before. They are furnaces too ....

Funny how city people don't get how they are built to survive winters, so much so that we actually warm up with them like that and they don't even notice the loss of heat or the freezing hands pressed in on them.

I had almost the best thanksgiving ever - just easy moving, a feast and peace and quiet. Hope you all had a good one too.

Good morning. I thought of you all on Thanksgiving, while doing lots of cooking, and eating. The chickens were happy it was Thanksgiving, as they started their day with the neck and giblets etc that had been crockpoted all night to make stock. That warm turkey was a rare treat. Today they get the back...but it will be cold.

We spent lots of time discussing what to do about the cyclocross race we have here each year. This year we have 6-8 inches of snow and do not feel it is appropriate to have a race which would be impossible to ride...so we are just having a free event where people just come and play in the snow however they want...snowshoes, skis, snow angels...and they can try to ride their bikes if they want. A highlight of the day is the leftover table where people can graze on other peoples leftovers and get rid of their own. Should be fun anyhow. Gotta start the big coffee urn soon.

People love to look at the chickens, but this year the chickens seem to prefer to hang in the coop until the white stuff disappears.

No but I've admitted to sniffing them. A healthy chickens feathers smell nice and clean. They just get so fluffy you want to squeeze them.

Strangely enough no one seems to mind the cold except me. The side hoop with nearly half uncovered gave me the most eggs yesterday.

HAHA! This reminds me of agnes from Despicable Me. "It's so FLUFFY!"

Hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving!

That wet snow we had was tough on the run I built. It would have been fine if I left it uncovered, but the extra weight snapped a few screws. I'm going to have to out a support pole (or 3) in the middle to support the plastic so it stays together until spring!
