NY chicken lover!!!!

Don't you just hate it? I've stepped on one or two now and then buried in the shavings on the coop floor.

Please allow some venting. I AM SICK OF THIS RAIN. I AM SICK OF THE WATER. I AM SICK OF THE SEPTIC NOT FUNCTIONING WELL.

I sat in church this am thinking of Alabama where is must be warmer and drier than here. I am considering dumping all the chickens, so I can save money and every three or four months take a trip south.

I AM SICK OF THE PRESSURE FOR EGGS! DW got mad cuz she took money for three dozen and I didn't have them. Also folks who are regulars too. DW co worker's husband won't eat store bought eggs. I have a friend who CAN'T eat store bought eggs and another who said don't get rid of your chickens, if you need to raise the price.

I got flogged by that blasted BM roos yesterday and it hurt. I had to control myself to keep from wringing his neck and wasting a good chicken dinner. I tell you he will be the first to go when I start processing them myself.

Well I'm off to take a nap. I hate going out back to collect eggs cuz it's so darn wet. There are puddles everywhere and deep ones too. Ducks would love it here.

Oh eggs pipping on day 20 again and none are the BR eggs I bought. One EE and one Del have started. I do hope more hatch or I'll be bummed.

ta, ta, for now,

Ran-zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I want to move back south not just take trips then again I don't have family up here really its wifes area and I've never seem my family too much anyways.

I don't have pressure for eggs. Right after I put my sign up I started getting people to come but then that dog attacked and I just don't have enough layers not to mention they ladies are on strike atm.

My rooster tried that with me when I was picking up the girls this summer so I picked him up and put his rear in the small coop with that big window so he could watch me handle them and get all mad. I kept him in there for like a week. He calmed down alittle after that. We still eyeball each other all the time though.

Good luck with your hatch.

Rancher, I can just see your girls all whispering to each other. Are you going to use the secret place? It's so much more rustic than the coop. No we can't all go there. A couple of us will have to use the coop. Isn't it fun you know where? NO egg songs, just lay your egg and move on.

He has barred rocks so now they not only speak like they're in the clink they have the stripes also. Think they ue orange jump suits now though. Guess rancher will have to knit them some orange jump suits.

If i ever find out when and where the picnick is i'll try to bring hatching eggs and chicks if i can/aloud. I am waiting to see what colors my re's lay still. But i have a white leg horn and silver amer hens that my amer roo will be over so should have light blue to blue.

Someone may have already responded but the picnic is in May. Rome, NY. Tab and Travis's house. They have a wonderful set up for such an event. And yes, you allowed, even encouraged to bring things to sell, trade and/or donate to the Chinese auction. More info will flow when it gets closer. (Like when the snow stops falling)

Aqha--my mother just sent me pics. You wouldnt believe how much ice is covering everything. She said the road grader went through scraping the ice off the roads. Thats a lot of ice. The trees are all bending over and her barn roof has over an inch of ice on it.

Got my baking done somewhat. Dh gave the terrorists the ribcage of the deer and let them out to roam. They are happy to wander the yard again. I had to have him grab a hen from the run though and she is in rough shape. She was limping, thats why I had him grab her. Not sure whats going on but she is all skin and bones. From the way she is eating, I think the others are not allowing her to eat as she kept looking around like she was going to be attacked. She is now enjoying deluxe chicken accomodations downstairs with her own private food bowl, water with vitamins and probiotics in it and had room service deliver her some chopped apples and yogurt. She will stay in until she puts on some weight and her leg heals. I didnt want to mess with it too much right now because she is just so hungry and looks so miserable. I will give her some quiet time to rest and eat and drink. Maybe I will get a chance to look at it tomorrow.

Bill and Little Man were having a crow off in the front. I think Bill was taunting Little Man because he was out and Little Man was still locked up in his run.

Dh found bear signs out back. Paw prints in the snow by a pine tree he had hung a deer head in a few years ago. Explains why the dogs were going crazy last night. I hope that the failure of the bear to get the head (just a skull) means he wont be back. I will have to listen for the neighbors dogs again tonight. As long as said bear stays away from my coops, I dont have a problem. If it comes around, it will be its last time around.

No rain here Rancher but I am tired of the dampness. My joints are too. At least my chickens are getting their feet clean wandering through the puddles.

Ta ta for now.

What are we looking at ? A roof ?

I'll be looking for NN eggs in the spring if anyone has any. :) As for me, I always have mutt eggs - my EE or NN roo with assorted girls (leghorn/EE/NN/etc). Just in case anyone needs any for a school hatch or a test run. :)
Me Too ! Mixed mutts !
Americanas ( black & Gray ) < - maybe they will be laying eggs by then...I guess laying blue eggs takes alot of extra work !
& Samatras ( black & Gray ) White Plymouth Rocks .Australorp Roo , Comets , RIR ,

Just talked to my cousin who lives just outside of Watertown...They have 2 inches of ice and no power.

It was 60 here today. This afternoon went to my Moms for my family christmas party and it was 38 there. This weather is crazy. I was out with the chckens this morning in a tee-shirt. Last week I was an eskimo!

Traps are set. Hopefully there will be something in them tomorrow morning! I know that it might take a little bit, but I want it over soon. Looking at building a new duck hut. Craig won't go in the old one. They used to go in at dark without a problem, now he doesn't want anything to do with it. I can't say that I blame him. I wouldn't want to go in a place where my buddy was killed. I just need to get something done soon. I don't like chasing him around at night so I can pick him up to get him into the chicken coop and I really don't want to leave him out

I dont blame him either ...He is real lucky he escaped .
I would try giving him a treat to catch him ....or you can use a garden rake to chase / steer him in the direction you want .
Hopefully after a couple of days he will get used to going in with the chickens & go in himself
