NY chicken lover!!!!

My son thought it was a crow and walked within 5 feet of it. He spooked it and it flew off leaving 3/4 of his meal behind. Stupid falcon. I didn't name my guineas as to prepare for their departure. I have lost 3 in a year now. One did fly the coop though. :)
I had a Falcon kill a bird. They're not big enough to carry them off.  I'm not sure a Hawk is either, but may be.  At least not my large orps.  They're very heavy.  I'd have to research, I may be wrong.

I doubt it. I don't know of anyone that is raising them up here except us. There is someone in Ohio but she isn't letting anything go yet.

Well consider yourself luck cuz neither am I anymore. We will have to stick together then. Every broody this spring will get BM eggs.

After reading Freds advice on breeding it will be tough around here.

How are yours doing? Got pics?

All my hawk attacks the hawk ate the chicken on my lawn. Only once did the chicken totally dissappear. It was a Sumantra....a small chicken, so totally possible the hawk was able to carry it off....or totally possible the hawk ate it's fill and something else carried it off. I am sure that both things happen...eating in place and carrying it to feed their young.

I know my attack was a Falcon. It landed near by in a tree and if it could have carried the pullet off it would have. I've seen our Red tail once. Landed in the yard but didn't get a chance to get a bird.

I will be planting lots of cover grasses around the yard.

Sorry forgot,

Morning everyone,

Icy out there. I plan to use some grit for traction. Tab's coming for birds. I can't have her slip. I think I'll carry them to her. Still it will be water world out there soon I"m sure. I really need a pond for it to drain into.

Take care and have a good day,

Rancher, it's to wet for me, Hicks.

Morning!

My parents had my older 2 overnight last night. DH and I were able to go out to dinner and enjoy each other's company with out having the girls shouting for our attention. It was nice. This morning I'm catching up on laundry that I wasn't able to do because of the frozen pipes. DH found that it was the small pipe leading to the pressure switch that was freezing causing the whole house to be with out water. Pretty soon I will be heading to rancher's to pick up his orps. DH thinks I'm crazy to be getting more birds. "I thought you were done with Orps?" I just smiled at him and shrugged. I liked the Orps so I will give them another whirl.
