NY chicken lover!!!!

Why Do Birds: I hate to say it, but I would be more worried about my family obtaining germs from the chickens living indoors than my chickens getting ill from living outdoors. Chickens belong outside, not inside. But that's just my opinion. There are exceptions however, some folks prefer to brood indoors because they have no other choice (access to heat lamps, etc), some will bring injured ones indoors (but have them in some sort of pen for the time being) until they are well enough to go back outside.

My hubby swears that when we had 6 baby birds in the house last year he was getting sick from them ...
They DO generate a lot of dust dander & feathers as they are growing & moulting .I could dust the cabinet behind them every day .
I know for sure they killed my shipping scale that was near them in the same room .

CASS -
Pharm: It was a Brahma roo. The only survivor from the dozen I tried to hatch from BrahmaPapa (where Did he go, btw?)
I was wondering that too

And some people think that the flu shot gives them the flu. They are called hypocondriacs.

I just went through 450 posts!

I think Nora is working on teeth. She is chewing her hands and drooling a ton. At the beginning of the week she didn't want to settle down to sleep at night. My coworker and her kids were sick and I picked up overtime Monday and Wednesday. I ended up sick Thursday and left work on Friday. I had the chills, hurt all over, cough, and fever. I felt better yesterday but still wasn't moving fast. I still have an aching back, but at least I don't feel like I was hit by a truck any more. My older two had mild fevers yesterday. I hope they don't get as sick as I did.

LuvMyChicks-- I think my DH and I were at Morrisville when you were.

I plan on starting a thread for the picnic today. I see that everyone is getting excited. It's only a few short months away!

What I gave my kids when they were teething was a soft / used toothbrush ( can sterilize it if you want )
moisten it with a little fruit juice ? They will chew on that is very soothing to those gums ..or a frozen washcloth

The problem is it is a dead virus but peoples bodies react differently. One person might not do much while another persons body may go into over drive trying to pump white blood cells to battle it making them weaker and sick.

I picked up new roads on my paper route, these are in Kirkville, and one customer has a mailbox with two hens painted on it and today when I stopped to deliver their paper I could hear their rooster! I love finding customers with chickens!

I don't like that the biggest of the new roads is kind of a main road with a few sharp blind turns. I'm afraid of being hit while on the shoulder delivering the paper at 3am-4am

Feeling ill, yes. (Been there, done that-immu-compromised) Actually catching the FLU? Can't happen. Dead virus.

How dark is the roadway? If it is pretty darn dark, put on your flashers around those areas....people out at that hour are very afraid of flashing lights (Might be a cop, might be drunk) Others are almost asleep so the flashing gets their attention from a long way off.

And if someone already has a bad immune system and you send it into over drive it can put them on they're arse for a few days. each person is different all bodies don't react the same way.
