NY chicken lover!!!!

Anyone getting duck or goose eggs yet? I'm still eggless from mine, but since they are my first waterfowl, I don't have experience.

Coronations are laying pretty well, Lav Orps, one once in a while. My Birchen is laying regularly, thanks Rancher. I have 2 chicks as of yesterday. My one birchen Marans I found in my black copper pen, lays a very dark egg, but eats it....aarrgghhh. I put a roll out nest in their pen, but she hasn't used it yet...

Still waiting for the Porcelain & Paint silkie hens to start laying again. My Silver Patridge silkies are laying every day. Hatching out a lot of them, most are just blue looking but there is an occasional partridge in the bunch. I will be having a fire sale with the blues eventually.

Thats all Folks!

Off topic though, my Merlot wine is coming along nicely! I should probably switch hobbies. Stop chickens & just make wine, I'd be happier more often!

No duck eggs here yet. I'm hoping I get some soon.

How dark are your blue silkies Marq??? I would be interested in one or two if you had some lighter colored ones.

How do you use the apple cider vinegar on the outside ?...not heard of that .
My chickens do drink apple cider vinegar in their water . had thought of doing it with the cat havent tried it yet though

OOO did you say wine? Merlot even, yum! I never kept any waterfowl, I do like them! Baby ducks always look like they are smiling to me.

I have thought the same thing some times lol, but I just love something I can interact with more too :) I have about 10 gallons of wine I am hoping to bottle tonight (cranberry cider, Barolo, and hops ginger) yum

Lynzi I keep track of eggs laid daily. I can tell the 4 tots eggs apart from the big girls. So I keep track of who laid when.

All I did was print a calendar off Microsoft word for the year & mark every day who laid what. It's also how I keep track of when I give them meat, herbs, etc. I can also keep track of their ages as well.

It's pretty cool to see the number off eggs I get a week, month or year and see as they increase or decrease with the weather :)

Red wine is a lot like chickens, have to wait 6 months before you can drink it...same with eggs, 6 months before they lay...

I agree!! especially Turkeys! 28 days to hatch geeez. Now that I have eggs in it seems like a very long time. I just said yesterday somewhere "its all about waiting" well I suppose its high time I learned some patience!
