NY chicken lover!!!!

Checked out the auction stuff tonight, see a few things I want. Forgot to take pics for you all. Feel bad for the rabbits and fowl that are boxed up and sitting out there tonight. Some are caged nicely with food and water, others stuffed in haphazard boxes with no room to move. I did see a nice flock of buff orps and another mixed Orp and SLW. Then the usual scraggly barnyard mixes and bantams. Guinea hens, one pea hen, many royal palm turkeys, few pigeons, 3 little white ducks, and an assortment of rabbits.
It certainly looks that a farm store went out, bunch of new horse and chicken stuff. Not sure how the lots will be sold. Anyone ever use Rooster Booster? There was 3 containers of it in a bucket. I'll keep an eye on some new stuff to bring to Chickenstock auction if sold in small lots, not buying an entire display rack of chick feeders.

If I was closer I would go and those 3 little ducks would be coming home with me along with a few rabbits. Poor things sitting in boxes. It's the momma and Nurse in me got to save them, which is why when I went to TS today they had 7 White Plymouth Rocks and 4 Red breed pullets left and I took them all but I also got a great deal as they have more coming in tomorrow so I paid a $1.00 a piece for them. Will post some pics of them tomorrow.

I got my BBS Ameraucana eggs!!!! Aaand they're a line from Paul Smith!! Very Excited!!! I will have extra roos I'm sure from the hatch if anyone is interested. Ok, how long do I let shipped eggs sit for? is one day good? Rancher, sorry you got a bad deal on your egg price.
I would be interested in a roo
Well now I do trade out my roos so I can keep the gene pool deep on my EE's so depending on what it will cost me I might be interested. As for my deal. No it wasn't a bad deal at all it's just that I just got mine and like shopping for other things I found them on sale afterwards. :( We're holding out for a new TV stand at Target. We want it in black but the store only carries it in gray/silver. You know how things like this go. I just never expected it to happen with hatching eggs. In the future if there is anyone who wants to split and order of some particular eggs let me know. There were some nice Mottled Amers I really liked. ;)
Rancher what you looking to order I might split with you depending on what you want to get

UGH! My roo is running out of chances to be a good boy. I was playing with the kids today and I heard him run up behind me. I thought that he was with a hen until I felt him hit the back of my leg. I chased him around then when I couldn't catch him I hit him with a rock. He is going to get some cuddle time tomorrow morning! I wish that I could have cought him then. QUESTION: When do you know if it is just him being a pain because of spring or is he just going to be a nasty bugger?. He has been so good till the last few weeks. I don't know if it is because it is spring or maybe cause my frizzle roo is in there too? The SS is the alpha. DH has already said that if he goes after the kids he is gone. So far he has only gone after me. Today makes 5 times in 2 weeks.

Anyone want to trade for a big Speckle Sussex Roo?!

You should be able to tell from his eyes if it is going to be a permanent thing .
Also dont turn your back on him .
If he is going to nail you ...he will most likely do it from behind .
Practice Chasing him ..let him know you are his better . dont wait for him to start it ..
When you see him run at him ...show your the dominate one .
Have you changed shoes or anything ?
I would have my meeting clothes on Skiddy would try to nail me more ( a dress & different shoes )
His eyes looked different than Sammys
Spring does seem to have a effect on some boys

Do you have a lawn Rake ? Carry it when you go out near him ..Rake him in !

Glasshen - that is so funny - yes there is always one in the bunch - mine is my buckeye - she will ALWAYS find a way out of the protective netting to scratch where she wants - but never back in - so when she is in the net group that day - I have to open the netting for the last hour of the day so she can get BACK IN ha ha ha

The Auction - I'd love to go - if you pick up a lot and have extra stuff - please bring it to the picnic .... I would love extra supplies at a super bargain price - but since I already have what I need - I am meaning cheap - but again, if you buy a lot with extras - bring it ! :) Horse and CHicken stuff - as it looks like there are at least 3 horse people ... Brella is too as said she was coming - but she has been very quiet !!! Hope she is just moving and very busy but ok.

I really like the Mottled Ameraucanas eggs for sale on here.

For Sale:
Project MOTTLED AMERAUCANA eggs

They are $6 an egg so I can't afford a dozen by my self. Perhaps 5 or 6 eggs. These are not even the best pics posted. I'd be willing to work with someone else. By work I mean trade chicks/chickens back and forth. $37.50 split two ways. $25 split three for ten eggs.

Not sure we could still get them but I can't imagine to many takers at $6 an egg.

Though it may depend on what DW's test tell us about her condition. I've got a new egg customer who will take all I have, but if things look bad I may have to scrap most of the birds.

Missed a few days, so many posts. My Fredo is a rooster! He jumped on the back of the black silkie yesterday and the black silkie screeched. Does this mean that the black silkie is a hen? Or a rooster? I picked up Fredo and told him he's my baby and has to be my good boy, gave him a kiss, and let him run around the kitchen, separate from the other 2. We are completely unfamiliar with chicken behavior so don't know what to make of this unusual behavior toward a fellow hatchling. Thoughts? Fredo sits in my lap and I pet him. He seems to be a very happy bird. I'm surprised about the stories on here where peoples pets are attacking them. How common is this? We hold Fredo in our arms and pet him every day. Should we be worried? Our Fredo is 1/2 silkie 1/2 cochin and he is by far our most favorite pet! The black silkie sits off in a corner. It doesn't fly, it barely moves. The other 2 fly and hang out together, they are 1/2 silkie 1/2 cochin.

well - if you keep treating your Fredo like a human baby - you are going to be picking up your little black silkie one day - she will decide she wants down and call out with a complaint and your little loveable Fredo will attack your legs to try to save his silkie.

You have refused to listen to people here who have been working with chickens for years. You want a sweet pet you can hold and squeeze - maybe a parrot ?

The babies are turning into adults and if you are as educated in medicine and science as you claim - you would realize that is creating a permanent change within them - you either roll with the change and adjust your living and petting behavior or deal with the consequences.

My roos were all fine with each other all winter - but as soon as the warn days hit - I had to separate them all into their breeding cages within a few days or have dead roos ... toward the end of spring I can integrate the flock again - but they will always be getting into small dominating fights ... just with lots of room they won't murder each other. My best 2 roos have eyed me this spring - they will ease out of it later - but for now - I am ready to punish/cuddle any ankle rush I see ....

He's not that big - so you can survive an ankle attack if you want to. You've already got plenty of advice on here - and we all modify the advice A LITTLE bit for our situations ... but you are treating these birds like a totally different creature than what they are. I don't think you will be successful in the long term. Keep us posted - one way or the other.
