NY chicken lover!!!!

17 ducklings and counting.

Who the H*** told me that Muscovy ducklings take 35 days to hatch? Hmmm?? It only took 31 days....Ray was NOT amused....cuz they all hatched while I was gone and the hen was chasing the Momma duck off the nest and the babies were getting crushed. I had to laugh....3 mommas and they were all jealous and wanted all 17 for their own. I don't think the one I found under the chicken momma foot is going to make it....but, if it does, I'll have 17....if it doesn't I'll have one less to rehome.

What are the parents look like my babies[/quote]

They are chicks from Greenfire, the original importer of this breed from Europe. Check out their website for their breeding stock pics. - very few of these birds in the US.

I had two muscovy females hatch out over twenty each last year ..then the other two females I had, one had 15, the other had 18... Muscovy ducklings everywhere!!!!
Thank goodness they were easy to sell!!
Good luck with your new babies!

. I haven't mentioned anything here yet but my husband lost his job about 3 weeks ago and is looking for work all over NE. He had an interview in RI this week that went really well but also had one in Binghamton last week too. Keepingy fingers crossed we can stay here if he goes for the Binghamton job but if it's RI then we'd obviously have to move and how much we brought with us would depend on where we found a place to live there. Right now we're just enjoying him home. I told him NOW is the time we should take a vacation since he never has any time off! Lol
.

An unemployed spouse is a mixed blessing. Nice to spend time w them but tough to have an unknown future possibly involving a move. Thoughts & prayers to u and ur family. Many times big changes are for the better. Here's hoping. :hugs

So a couple days after setting Breda eggs I unexpectedly happened upon some Cochin eggs(chicken stock raffle :)). So they hatched out a couple days apart and are in the brooder together now. I thought it was interesting to see how their foot feathers are developing differently. The Breda is the darker, black bird & the Cochin is the lighter blue.

Perhaps it's just the difference between a stiff feathered bird and a soft feathered bird, but thought I'd share. The breads have huge fans of feathers on their feet. Walking around straight up the way they do is comical w their feathered clown shoes.

Good you came home to rescue him from motherhood

Went berry picking yesterday, got about 20 lbs worth.

Then made 2 batches of jam. Had some on toast this morning, yum!

Hubby also put some in a jar with coconut vodka to infuse. Did 5 pints in the freezer. And we had a couple daiquiris to finish the night. Now just have another 10 lbs to do something with.

And the rumpless chick has succumbed. Since neither of the parents are rumpless, I wonder if it had internal problems? It was laying down by itself this morning. Just now found it dead.
