NY chicken lover!!!!

You need to do what I did. Start small with raised beds and add on each year.  Many things can be used for raised bed sides and much of it can be found free on CL.   I've seen cement blocks on there, landscape bricks and used bricks.  Those "blue" tubs can be cut in half.  Just use your imagination.  Too there is no digging. Just lay down a bed of old newspapers and set your bed on top and fill it in with whatever. Straw, hay, coop cleanings and then pour a bad of soil on top and plant.  Before you know it, one bed becomes two and two becomes three, etc. etc.

Anyone traveling in the DC area ?

ha ha -- my disease has me - and there are some eggs there I want to try to hatch out -but I'm not going to pay $$ for shipping to have all the eggs useless. Too expensive and too sad.

I'd pay for the time and trouble .... So just putting it out there. I'll be glad to drive to NY to get them.

Should you decide to have them shipped, I'd wait til a cool spell. I also use different methods to hatch. I used 5 broody hens in three different locations. 5 out of 20 hatched and then only by two hens in a cool area.

What is it you're expecting and are you paying for express mail? At this time of year over night might be best.

Should also post in the PA thread, maybe someone works/travels that way. Egg train!

Rainy day today. Looks like it is going to be a wet week. The chickens all look so sad all wet. There are a few that were smart and stayed under stuff to stay dry. At least the ducks are having a great time. They are all running all over trying to get to every puddle that they can find. They spend a few minutes in one and then move on to the next area. Their area in the run is getting so bad. It is just a big mud pit. I think that I need to get some gravel or maybe some wood chips or something to help dry it out.. Our chicks are doing great. The Little Chick that Could is doing so much better. It's leg is almost perfect. When I can get it to stand still for a second, it still stands with the one leg a little bit back and turned in a tiny bit but it is so much better then it was.

Not to much else happening here. The second half of summer gets really busy for me. Lots of birthday and have to get stuff finished for the kids to go back to school. Then there is the State Fair. It looks like I'll be working there more this year during the week. Looking forward to that. Don't care to much having to get up at 4:30am but love being there..That and I'll get a little more time checking out the poultry building. I'm hoping that this year will be better then last year.

I have a friend that lives down that way. Too bad it wasn't a few weeks ago, may have been able to at least gotten them to NY. The stars were in a row..now they are all over the place.

Hey guys, since Lindsay's leaving we're throwing a little going away party. It's going to be this Saturday, the 2nd around 4-5pm at my house. Bring a chair, your favorite beverage and maybe a dish to share.

Send me a PM for the address. Hope to see some of you here.

Would love to go - but I'm well over 4 hours one way - sending my best for the move ....

I have well over a month to organize an Egg Train ! :) So keep me in mind if anyone is traveling down there ....

I would like to, but not without DW. She can't go many places due to infections and all that. Still perhaps I can send a card. Lynzi, care to pm me your address?

You won't be leaving our thread will you? Going on your adventure and all.
