NY chicken lover!!!!

I suspected you'd be keeping it and I'm really not ready for bees with DW being sick and all. I had a guy on CL that had a set up for $300.00 not including bees.

I saw a lot of bees on flowers later in the summer. I didn't weed whack much so there were tall Asters and some other flower I don't know the name off. I would see them moving from flower to flower in the morning. I don't think there were enough in the spring when the apples were in bloom.

The bees I saw were a bumble type I think, but I could be wrong.

Anyhow perhaps in the future I'll get a hive.

All bees will help to pollinate, it's just that honey bees make - well - honey! I'm a bit leary of buying 2nd hand bee stuff simply because you don't know what went before - mites? foul brood? pesticides?? Go to :www.goldstarhoneybees.com. The website will give you a pretty good 'bee primer',

Wonder if anyone would want to split gas money and meet in Albany, NY if I went to buy more Lavender Orps in PA this Spring? They seem to be in high demand around here and I'd love to raise some, keep some, and sell some. I love a good road trip and would also not love to break the bank on gas! Just a thought in case anyone else wanted day-old chicks.

Gas is coming way down in price as of late!

We're down to $3.30 here in CT, we sometimes hop the border and get it in MA for $3.03 - that was last week. Probably below $3 now. Are you looking for JUST lavenders? Or are you open to other colors as well? I raise a few Orps and just got myself a splash roo for my lavender and blue girls. I'll be hatching from them in the Spring. (Or before if they start laying beforehand)

NY 90 Exit 48A had gas for $3.27/gallon a couple days ago.
No apples this year, not a one, and we have 6 mature apple trees of different varieties. We will have some pear though on the one pear tree that we have. It's a late pear, due next month! Yum! We have a LOT of peppermint so it's peppermint tea every evening with raw honey!
Both hens are sitting on about 3 eggs. Not sure if anything will hatch, they are due on October 23 if any are fertile. I tried to check the eggs but Fredo looked like he was having a seizure when I tried to pick up a hen...

The other eggs didn't appear to be fertilized. I cracked open 2 more and they looked empty, regular yolks.

I tried this offer when I drove down. Only one person took me up on it and I didn't even charge anything to do it. Other than they needed to work out the deal with Jody and pay her first.

They sent her the money and I brought back the chicks. It was nearly a week before they came to pick them up at my house.

As for selling some, there is competition so don't plan to MAKE money. I paid $20 per chick for lavenders from Jody and no one here will pay nearly that much. Hers are worth the money though.

Check her site "hinkjcfarms.com" I think.

I would for sure like some of her Buffs again. Though not anytime soon I fear.

We are going through a lot right now. Just found a leak in the roof.

Not sure how we'll get the money to fix that.

Elroddo- I have a Partridge Rock roo, came from a breeder in Tully. 1 year old. Did lose him comb points to frostbite last winter. Good boy, but don't need him. He is free for the taking, rather he go to a home because he is too nice for the freezer. Im in Cortland County.
My iPod is being funny and won't let me quote/reply, keyboard kept disappearing.

Hi sarahandbray,

I'm not sure if Marquisella (BYC member) still has Lav Orps. She would be MUCH closer to you that going to PA. I got my lovely Lav Orp from her a year and a half ago. Just lost her and am still so sad, as she was everyone's favorite here: lovely temperament and a reliable layer. Pretty, as well.

OMG!!! My house has so many nooks and crannies for air to escape!! The entire neighborhood must be attracted. I literally said to my husband last night, "We need to put plastic or something on that old door with the cracks in it to block the heat from escaping". When they put in the propane, the kerosene, the cable and whatever, phone I think, they just drilled holes in the side of the house... and left them open. I told my husband if the back end of the house wants to catch fire.. that is fine, so long as he "responds" with the fire company before it gets to the really old section.
On a different note, my friend made a jar of pickled eggs and I told him that someday, I would get some banties and give him the eggs to pickle for pickled poppers.. lol.
As for the breeds.... Blue Copper Marans, Blue Orpington, and a Lavender Orpington... awefully pretty. Other than that I want buff orpingtons, rhode island reds, Delaware (love that look) and I like that blue laced red Wyandotte. Nothing much...lol

We are always trouble shooting for those little "welcome signs" for the rodents. Obviously, we have yet to find them all, because as I mentioned, every now and again, we have unwelcome residents! They are so tiny and can chew, chew, chew to accommodate themselves! Good luck. Winter isn't too far off. UGH!

By the way, I have 1 Delaware, named "Pringles." She is a very reliable layer when she's not molting (like now) and although she is not a cuddly bird, she's a nice looking one. I got her from Rancher the spring before last.
