I only have a 8 foot square coop. 25 is PLENTY for me. That's almost 2 dozen eggs A DAY for 2 people. And one has high colesterol.

Well first of all TX is hot, hot, hot. Family lives in "The Woodlands", which is like a city or suburban area. It's weird and they live in a complex. So no chickens. It's just outside Houston. No worries on my moving here. I liked AL better.

I did forget to mention that with nest boxes I have read in either BYP or PP that putting the nest boxes lower than the roosts can help prevent the sleeping in them.

I do have a little Frizzle "Frenchy" and she can do what ever she wants and she sleeps in a low nest box.

I can't say what these EE's will lay except that they were hatched from a blue egg crossed with a brown Del roo. I also can't say what they are sex wise at this point, nor whether the Friz's will be friz's.

The ee's are white with barring on the backs and wings. Oh and did I mention they were free? I do have a nice lavender and buff EE roo for free too.

I will hopfully in the spring if the Good Lords willing be hatching Lavender Orps and Blue orps and white orps and buff orps and of course Dels and I always remember the nice people. hint, hint. All the orps came from hinkjc farms except the Blue spash came from AL and one buff hen is a hathcery girl.

Now where was I?

Oh and as far as the colesterol thing is concerned pasture fed eggs have less than conventional eggs. I do give out nutritional info to new egg customers. If you decide to pick up chicks or buy chicks be sure to ask for the literature. The latest has to do with Salmonella and the use of anitbiotics.

Take care

Somehow I can easily see myself in this position within the year, as I'm definitely addicted. I originally planned on half a dozen, will be up to 25 as of next week (I'm sensing a theme here), and honestly have no intention of stopping.

I have two acres going mostly unused - plenty of room!

I'm going to start telling people I've contracted Morehens Disease as suggested on another thread, as that's just awesome.

I am pretty sure I have it!

Fed the girls this morning and noticed something was digging at the door of the coop. Looks like time to do some preventive maintenance. I am going to dig and place a plate underground right in front of the door. That should solve that issue (...for now).

If it's contagious, STAY AWAY FROM ME. I have to get rid of some of my chickens before winter. I just don't want to have to deal with bored chickens with too little space. 21 so far and 4 eggs under one hen. I am sincerely hoping only 2 hatch. None would be better, but this girl is DETERMINED to be a momma. When she comes out of the coop she comes out with wings drooped and spread from her body....if you try to mess with her she rushes at you. I figure she is protecting her chicks already and they haven't even hatched yet. If I eat the two that are definately roos and 2 hatch then I am still at 21. Anyone want a couple of white silkies? I'll throw in the roo for free. He's really nice.
