NY chicken lover!!!!

This is for the half hoop that is 8' wide. I'll have to measure the double hoop since it's 9' wide. You simply measure the wide and mark the center. Then make the door as wide as you'd like.

Height and width of the doorway.

I measure up to the cross bar as you can see in this picture.

And this picture. Center the middle of the panel. This coop is completely covered with hardware cloth. Use the cross bars to for support on top of the door jams.

The chicks hatched on June 12, 14, and 18. They are pretty young. Last year one broody rejoined the flock early to my mind, but not this early.
Yes that is young ...3 weeks old ..
You will have to become Mama
was this hen broody for a while before you gave her eggs ? 2-3 weeks
it sounds like her hormones ran out . 2-3weeks before eggs or do I remember eggs breaking ? , 3 weeks incubating..3 weeks babies = 8 - 9 weeks
Can you put a light in there to keep them warm ? they should be alright ..there are 3 of them ?

Hey folks. New chicken person here, got four for eggs and pest control. I'm in Oswego county. Today will be day three of chickens, and we've already gotten two eggs. They're even starting to go in the coop without wrangling! We converted an old shed into a makeshift chicken coop, learning as we go. You guys have some impressive coops going on! Are they NY winterproof?

happy you joined!!!

The main thing about chickens and NYS is the chickens need to be dry and out of drafts, with good ventilation. The best thing is to not use any sort of warming device for your chickens because if there is a power outage then they are not acclimated to the cold they will become ill or die. Perches need to be wide (like a 2x4 with the 4 being up) so when the crouch their feathers cover their feet.
Check out the learning center for BYC there is TONS of information about every topic you can imagine>
Have a great day.
