NY chicken lover!!!!

I woke up at 6:20 to my lovely rooster. :/ Will the neighbors start complaining?
I put a for sale listing up. If he doesn't sell we're going to stew him.

His dad is EE and his mom is probably a black Orp. He's a good roo, but I'm growing out a Welsummer and a BCM cockerel for breeding purposes so he isn't staying.

Got a scare - breeder hen decided to roost in parts unknown last night .... was out with flashlight and not a sign of her - which was good hiding as she is white with black spangles ..... Bright White ....

Anyhow - she was out and about this morning and I fed her friends inside a dog crate to catch her since she knew I was out for her !!!! ha ha

SO - now she is in the big snap lock coop and I am in search of Kennel/Run material - I do have good bird netting for the top. Sheesh .... I was building up a nice show quality breeder flock - and BAM - my bestest hen decides she thinks the current coop is too cramped. And with a great horned owl about .... I was so fussy last night - hardly slept.

So please excuse the clutter about - 4-5 days in 89 to 90 degrees - and I am just doing the bare minimum outside ... the yard clean up can wait for cooler days.

ABOVE are the new pair ... BELOW is the one with wanderlust when she was younger !!! BAD HEN !!!

Gramma and Rancher, thanks for further info. Here's a pic I took of Sylvia this morning, her comb is not pale, and only flopping in the usual area. She's eating, and drinking, pooping, just seems 'off'. I still can't help thinking it's related to a combination of our ongoing very hot and humid weather, molting, and have a fast moving 5 year old staying here for 3 weeks, although he never harassed the chickens, just his presence, fast movements near the coop, and excited shouting in the garden probably freaked her out, but I'm not experienced enough to be able to rule out another issue, like parasites etc.

No, sadly I did not do much breed research before getting our first 2 chickens, Sylvia is a Brown Leghorn, and Pearl is a Plymouth Rock - they were a surprise present for my husbands birthday last year, we were having a huge slug, snail and cutworm problem in our veggie garden, and had talked about getting some for pest control - my sheep farmer neighbor got a mixed box of all the leftover chicks from Tractor Supply, and offered to give me two, all I asked for was 2 of different colors - I don't think she knew which breeds she had anyway.

Here's the 'reveal' July 2014

I did say in my intro write up to BYC, that now we know Leghorns are not the breed for us, and we wouldn't get any more - I did lots of research before getting our current new chicks, a Silver Laced Wyandotte & a Partridge Rock.

I'm still thinking it would be a good idea to deworm them, as I never have and the adult birds are 16 months old now. Of course I'll keep monitoring her closely and pass on any updates

I wouldn't feel to bad, (if you do). I started with eight different breeds. Some didn't work so I just gave them away. Nice breeds just didn't get along with the others.

I keep Delaware, Birchen Marans, Columbian Rocks, EE's, a couple of frizzle hens and three Marsh Daisy's. I do hatch too.

did you see my post about noise? Some breeds are worse crowers than others. Bantam Roosters are the worst, IMHO.

I keep about 7 + roosters and they're not that noisy. During the day it can be pretty quite.

Glad she came home. They can be pains sometimes.

Welcome !
I think you misunderstood the question ..
What bantam breeds do they have at myers.? that should narrow it down some ...as to which one it might be
Yes. I was able to find the list on a computer (knew it wouldnt work on my ipod that well). So the choices for clean-legged bantam are:
Ameraucana
Barred Rock
Belgian Quail
Black Rose Comb
Blue Rose Comb
Crested (Polish)
Rhode Island Red
Dark Cornish
Red Cornish
White Cornish
Black Japs
Black Tail White Japs
Black Tail Buff Japs
Grey Japs
White Japs
White Face Bk. Spanish
Delaware
Pyncheon
Buff Sebright
Golden Sebright
Silver Sebright
BB Red Old English
Black Old English
Blue Breasted Red Old English
Crele Old English
Red Pyle Old English
Self Blue Old English
Silver Duckwing Old English
Spangled Old English
BB Red Dutch
Black Dutch
Blue Dutch
Golden Dutch
Light Brown Dutch

That is quite the variety to choose from. There are some that can easily be eliminated from possibilities (not a BR, RIR, Polish, ect). Maybe a Seabright?
