NY chicken lover!!!!

Mine made it through day 3 of the heat. And I got 20/23 eggs today, a new high. Not sure what they are thinking.. they look SO miserable when laying in this heat, even with a fan. Ah well. More eggs for moi.

I had 2 broody Sumatra hens hatch a combined 11 chicks in this weeks heat. They both hatched early. My Sumatra's usually hatch on day 19, but in this hot weather (and they chose a HOT tin shed to brood in) one hatched her 1st one on day 17, the other hen started hers on day 18. All the cute little fuzzy butts have been outside with mama's for the last 2 days enjoying life!

The heat is making my chickens crazy. One layed a shelless egg today! It just had a skin on it holding it together, it was like a water balloon. Perfectly normal egg otherwise.

On the up side...I friend brought her daycare kids to see the chickens, rabbits and the puppy...they loved it. Thought it was cool to hold baby chicks and feel a fresh warm egg...I sent they home with coloring papers, feathers and eggs...They want to come back! At least they all know eggs come from chickens and not the store....also know the rooster isn't necessary for the egg...my friend even thought that! She is 100% city chick!​

Yes, rain and my DH and FIL are trying to put up the chicken fence so can the rain wait just a few hours...and how did I miss that it is suppose to rain today!!!!! I never get it right! Everyone enjoy the cooler weather...​

I didn't know it was supposed to rain either. It's a good thing I painted the coop I'm building last night. Today is run day..........
