NY chicken lover!!!!

Well I have been keeping the Daisies inside the coop since there is just the three of them and plenty of room. i want to be sure they're eating Grower and not waiting for me to come and let them out and follow me into the garage for scratch. Did I mention one afternoon as I was going out there the three of them were on the stoop in the garage. I'm not sure they didn't expect me to invite them in. Anyhow I hope they'll be laying soon.

As well as all the young C. Rocks and one lone Del pullet of the last hatch.

I've three young dels to move out of the basement to the larger pen.

I've filled the incu with eggs.

Poor Buckwheat is still sitting on her lone egg. I think it's good and should hatch any day now if it is.

As for meal worms, what are their purpose? Just treats?

Molting is crazy here too. I've got one EE hen who looks awful. Big Delores looks okay now but still needs more filling out.

I've had traps set for squirrels and this afternoon found a Possum in a trap. Since it is a have a heart it was alive, though I'm not sure how long it had been in the trap. It did not look happy. Anyhow I put the trap near the road since they seem to like roads and prop it open with stick so it could mosey on home. I don't suppose it was a threat to the chickens? Squirrels meet a less merciful fate. They are just nasty, nasty, nasty.

Ive heard Possums can attack chickens ...
we have had them around our house & they never bothered them .
They were just walking through
The coops are closed up at night so I won't worry to much, but if I catch another I might dispatch it. I don't really like to do that though, unless I have too.

How smelly is smelly. I mean my son in laws feet stink can peel paint.  :sick   Seriously!

I just get a little creeped out about the idea of farming worms in my house. If they're clean & not too smelly I can handle it, but if they're gross & nasty, not so much. Suppose smelly can be relative. Day old chicks are not smelly at first, but 3 week old chicks, still being brood inside can get a little stinky. 4+ week old goslings or ducklings better be outside or able to go outside very soon due to the stink factor per my nose. It's all relative tho I suppose.

@@boskelli thank you so much for the links!! I will try the mealworms if I can make a setup in the basement that is warm enough. If it gets smelly or gross, tho I'm out.

So I had to do some foot surgery this week:
400

Had been treating bumble foot topically and it just wasn't getting better. Hopefully pulling out the lesions will do the trick. Shar seems to be doing well w it. The vetwrap stays on well enough so she can stay out w her friends.

TSC has a bator with fan and turner on sale this week for $119. The hovabator is between $140-$160 depending on where you get it plus shipping I imagine. I'm going with the hova, if Santa doesn't bring it i'll have to wait till spring. Giants probably won't be laying until then anyway.
Beercan- If you are close and you want some of your eggs incubated. Bring them over. I can hold 350 and it's running non stop. I will hatch them out for you; just leave me a cool chick or two.
