NY chicken lover!!!!

I saw a super mean RIR rip his spur off in my fathers shoe, it was just the casing around it, guess they shed them like a snake skin, Lol!
This poor guy lost the whole thing not gust the outside. I ripped right off. There was a bowl of a hole in the leg that bleed for 2 days. I packed it and taped it and finally got it to stop. When I lost him it was starting to grow in some.

Here are a few pics

Looks more like a hen to me. I have a lavender splash rooster. You can see the saddle feathers in this pic. He didn't have a tail for the longest time and now it is finally starting to come in. They are also a LOT bigger then any of my other birds, even my good quality girls.

I could be wrong, but I think "The Farmers Place" ? In South Edmeston processes birds for $2 and vacuum seals them. Don't know how far that is from you.
I called them and they do not process. They referred me to KNK Poultry. www.knkpoultry.com I called him and he said it as $4.00 to process the bird; $5.50 per bird whole & vaccuum sealed and an additional $4.50 to cut the bird into pieces & vaccuum seal it.

They butcher Wednesdays & 8 AM and do it by appointment.

What is the benefit of vacuum sealing if you are going to freeze it??? Is it just hype or worth it?

What sort of normal rooster behavior should I be looking for? I'm new to this too. He/she started to develop a comb pretty quickly but it doesn't seem to grow quickly. Does about 5 months old look to be his correct age? I didn't have the orp as a day old chick.

Females do that...they tend to finish growing their comb and wattles when they get new the point of lay and it will change in color.

Thanks for the link. I'd probably prefer vacuum pack if I plan on freezing long.

Thanks @Framac I knew there was one somewhere in that area. I knew a guy that had many chickens and turkeys done there. This was five-ten yrs ago, must have been cheaper back then.

Geez that seems $$.
I do both vacuum seal and ziplock. Anything I know will be in the freezer long term gets vacuum sealed. I've had meat in our freezer for way over a year, no freezer burn and fresh as the day I sealed it.
