NY chicken lover!!!!

I went to close the coop tonight and couldn't find one of my chickens. Another chicken had a small amount of blood on her head (like the cockerel may have got her comb). I searched the yard for the lost chicken but couldn't find her. Hopefully I'll find her in the morning. :/
At least the weather is tolerable.
Have a happy weekend all.

Add some olive oil to her feed. What things other than feed are you giving her?  If she's on layer, back off for a bit, though the olive oil might help her pass the eggs better. Make sure they have lots and lots of water.  Chickens need lots and lots of clean water. If she's drinking from puddles I'd stop that.
They spend several hours a day , sometimes as much as 7 hours, free range. They have several water stations available plus the house troughs next door are open as well. I added olive oil today as we have no meat fat but no blood today so I'm relaxing a bit.

Something is definitely wrong in there ...
Has she started laying bigger eggs all the sudden ?
She needs to rest ...Isolate her ...in a dark spot ../ in a cage if you have one ..for a few days .
Keep it covered so she rests ...check her occasionally to make sure she eats ...
Absolutely NO LAYer or Calcium !
You can feed her non layer feed or corn or grass & water .
Depending on how far you want to go... with this ...you could put .. Raw honey in her vent
eggs are still regular size . She laid late today with no blood. She is still in lock down in the dog cage with a tarp over her. She has ventilation and water and a bit of non layer every few hours.

There is definitely a store there, Gramma Chick

My husband is in the retail meat business, and sometimes his suppliers can't deliver or he needs extra meat, and goes to the slaughterhouse to get it himself. One day our seven year old son was with him on one of these trips, and a young ccicken escaped from its cage and made its way into the goat section, where they were. I suppose the workers needed a bit of entertainment, so they told my son that if he could catch this chicken, he could take it home. So when I picked him up later I saw him getting into the car with a sneaky manner, trying to hide something under his arm. Well the chicken wasn't that small that I couldn't see some white feathers sticking out. At that time I was flabbergasted that the husband allowed him to have it, because he's always complaining that we have too many animals and they make too much mess around the yard and house. Before that, I never gave a thought to keeping chickens here, even though my family had a few when I was a teenager. But that was in a whole different continent, with a much bigger yard. There was much argument about naming i, and after all that, we ended up with the very original Chick. He wasn't fully feathered yet, and still made baby noises, and in two months he's grown to be bigger than most chickens I've seen. Well I hope I didn't bore you all with this narrative, but that's the story behind me getting a chicken.
not a boring narrative at all. I have 5 kids so I enjoyed it.

Nice! I just got done cleanig off the droppings boards. The bedding is ok, I just replaced it a couple days ago. All while still walking on my broken ankle. I refuse to wear the boot they gave me because I've had two knee surgeries and it pulls on my knee. So I'm walking on this ankle lol! I still take care of the ladies and gentlemen chickens though!

Be Careful...you want the ankle to heal right ...I know I ...I broke mine years ago ...it bothered my knee too .
I take joint supplements for it ( knee ) that helps

Well i started to read all the pages I missed the past couple weeks, but I'm going to have to give up. I need to work on dishes before the kids wake up. I've been busy with the kids dentist appointments in Rochester, seeing my new nephew, holiday activities, school work, house work, animals, and working towards getting a new job. Hopefully I will get the offer letter in the mail this week I've been expecting. My current job is laying off some of the workers effective in 2 weeks. It has been really stressful.
No bees here, we thought about it though.

Baking-- Congratulations!

Sorry to those who have had losses and troubles.

Pharm--Glad you're feeling better!

I've considered a hive arrangement where I'd buy the hive but someone else would tend to it and we'd share the honey. Not to many bees around here. I think the spraying for mosquitos is the reason. Plenty of mosquitos though.

I don't spray for mosquitos but the county does and my old neighbors did. IMO it's the stupidest thing. Still we have tons of mosquitos and I'm sitting on the ground hand pollinating squash.

Lord have mercy why do you have to go to Rochester for the Dentist? Surely there is one closer. Two doctors from our church have started a practice to help low income families. We have no dentist yet.

Lord have mercy,

Rancher
