They are probably worth more than 5.00 but they are still older hens

Do your research. We have many good postings on Ameraucana and Araucana. These look like EE's to me. The beard and whiskers do not make an Ameraucana. My black rooster is very nice but he has red feathers in spots not noticeable until you get up close.

Are any of you in need of some backyard breed hatching eggs or a few dozen eggs for you kitchen?

As I am not insured yet I am willing to take donations for the eggs. I mostly just don't want them going bad. We use as many as we can but it's just not enough.

Eggs will keep for long time in the fridge.

Point: I would store the eggs in the fridge, washed or unwashed.

Too you could look for recipes for use that result in foods that can be frozen. Such as pound cakes, cookie dough and breads.

I have had Mama inside for a while now. She was standing hunched and miserable, then went into a nest box and wouldn't come out much. I finally hauled her out and brought her inside. She wasn't moving much, and very little pooping. Gave her a bath, then checked her bum a couple of days ago, it was almost pasted up. More bathing. Very little eating, today I thought she wouldn't last the day, but she walked over to me, and ate a few finely shaved pieces of steak! She was very messy, so cleaned her up. I think water would be a help, but she is not interested. She has not been drinking the kefir, either, but that would probably help...think I'll just keep encouraging her to eat, and esp. Things that are kinda watery, like scrambled egg, won't count her out until I have to.

I want to get into a rare breed too. My criteria is that the breed doesn't mind not being free ranged all the time, calm and not flighty and not known for being super loud...although that can be more of a personal bird thing.

For example my barnevelder now honks like a goose! It's the funniest thing, quite loud though!

I decided to keep 4 chicks out of the 11 I hatched, I was able to sell the rest rather quickly. Kept 2 silkies, a barred blue egg layer and a Carolina blue EE.

I can't tell if this silkie is going to be black or blue? Looks greyish to me but has some white too.

That's one reason why I like these giants and sussex, they're calm. I have four cockerels and five pullets in a four by eight coop, 14x50 run. No one's missing feathers or getting beat up. When I had RIRs more then one rooster meant only one would have tail feathers and the hens would loose back feathers.
Moving sussex to big coop Sunday now that I removed four cockerels from there. Keeping the giants in the small coop to benefit from the large mobile run.

Can't say for sure, never know what work schedule is. I usually nab any available overtime, my jobs cake. If I don't work I usually get voluntold, only a couple here can do my job.
I just read through the thread this morning, I was going to post maybe more husbands would be willing to go if I brought a few five gallon kegs of homebrew...a Russian Imperial stout, a hoppy pale ale, maybe a watermelon wheat beer or a light lager for those that don't like real beer....? Lol!

Put a little ACV in her water ...to get her to drink some..
put your finger in the water ..then put it up to her beak ..she should feel the water & swallow
