NY chicken lover!!!!

Well, what do you know? I noticed an empty flower pot was knocked off a shelf in the coop and as I bent to pick it up I saw something small brown and oval!! Not one, but TWO!!! My first eggs and I was so surprised since I didn't expect them until March!! My girls aren't even four months old yet...

I hate to say it but I laugh when I see my chickens slide on the ice.

None has gotten hurt but it does get icy on the path. however it's me so it's blasted hilarious. I can't walk on dry ground let alone ice or snow.
No ice on my steps it was just fresh snow ...I was trying to tippy toe through ..
THAT strategy didnt work ...

I dont go to the DR unless I am Dieing ...no insurance here ...
No internal injuries ....No Blood ...Just Bruises strained muscles & Bruised Pride ...
Ive ace bandaged my waist & hand & Motrined up ..
Im too stubborn to not use it ..and stay down ...which is the worst thing to do anyway .
AND I CAN TYPE so im not totally helpless

For ice on the ground I shovel fresh snow on it ...it compacts with your steps & is less slippery ..
In front of my coop I have those teeny Road stones that the road sweeper picks up .
that seems to melt better & doesnt build up ice .& drains off .
and it is good for them as it provides grit ..
It keeps them away for the side of the road ...if they have the stones there

Congrats ! Which one is the biggest ? it probably is her ....
or you can flip each hen ..
(Hold her on your arm with her feet dangling ...keep supporting her and slowly flip her upside down ...head 1st )
and check the vent ...the one laying should have a larger pink vent ..

If you have some Insoluble Grit I'd toss that around.

I don't use salt due to the birds but I do use the Gran I Grit since even when the snow melts the chickens will pick it up.

So if you don't have any get a 50# bag and toss it on the paths. Just be sure to wipe your feet when you come in.
