NY chicken lover!!!!

They are all looking good....I must be lucky...I go out at night and put them in with the bigger ones...thou I did have my Coronation Cockerel not like a BCM pullet who had been in with him since they were chicks...he goes right at her. Today she went back over to her normal pen and he went to get her...so I am not sure...she is fine in with the older birds...

Ok...if you had told me this happened, I would have bet a LOT of money that it was not possible. I got home from work and let the goats and sheep out to roam like usual. I was working on the chicken coop and heard the MMAAAAAA of distress. I look around, and there...in one of our live traps...

This is Milo, our smallest Pygmy. If you had told me he could fit in there, I never would have believed it. WHAT he was doing, I can only guess. What a nut!

I opened the doors and he "Army crawled" out before bolting for this buddies, Toby and Otis.

(I had to take a picture before letting him out because the camera was handy and he didn't appear to be hurt.)

Out Pygmy/Nigi's are so mischevious too! (And LOUD!!!!) We have a few acres, 1/2 mowed and 1/2 woods. We have a tenant that lives right behind my house, with beautiful periennials all around her home that she planted. I let them out and where do they go? Straight to her house. I have flowers, they don't like them. There are woods with lots of woody-goodies for them. UGH! Sassy girls.

I had hawk attack this afternoon(i think) My birds managed to escape but on has talon marks dug into her flesh. I cleaned her up with betadine and smeared her with antibacterial ointment and caged her in the basement. I have some oxytet for emergencies but I don't think that this is the best choice for wounds. Besides the only directions are for drinking water for about 200 chickens. So what would you guys use? I can do a TSC run after work tomorrow. I have given injections to my horses and not opposed to injecting chickens< i just don't know how. Maybe at the picnic someone would be willing to give me instruction. Anyway time for bed. I will check here before work and hope fully some one can offer some advice...Like what kind of antibiotic and dosage..........
Thanks for any and all advice,
Ginny

I'm working on egg color. I've culled everyone to just the hens who laid a 6 or better egg, & the pullets& cockerels that hatched from those eggs.
I 'm anxiously waiting to see the egg color the new pullets lay, and then pair them with the cockerels from dark eggs.

Marquisella! Those eggs are gorgeous!!! I am very impressed! I have 2 BCM hens and their egg color is dark, but nowhere near that! I am also in central NY - any culls you'd be interested in selling? PM me if you are interested in selling any culls or hatching eggs!
