NY chicken lover!!!!

One of my silkies has been sitting for a week now and I'm wondering if that's long enough to trust giving eggs to her? I've never given her eggs before, she's still young. I take eggs from her daily and take her off the nest, but she's persistent so I figured I could give her some eggs I have in the bator?
Can you afford to lose eggs if she's not broody. My guess is she is. Keep an eye on her. Silkies are aliens from another planet and not to be trusted.

Now this is how I keep things in check. I remember all those folks who've gotten in over their heads with animals. The collectors. It was all good intentions at first but then it get's to be to much. Not enough time or money to care for them. Point, I don't have a problem passing by even free chicks or chickens. This is why I've given chicks and chickens away.

There is a reason they call them Crazy cat ladies.

We are the crazy chicken farm. Our "project " took on a life of its own once people decided to start buying meat chickens before we even ordered them. Once people stop pre ordering I will stop raising. Until then our crazy little project will continue to flourish and make our neighbors laugh until their sides hurt. Ha, on that note , my neighbor across the street told me as soon as I start processing he will start cooking. He loves fresh chicken. He almost had a yard full of chickens today but a car went by and the girls ran home.

@ chicken girl 15, If you can care for your project I wouldn't call you crazy. Crazy is folks who get in over their heads. Now if I processed birds I'd keep thing is check that way. I don't abide by smelly coops so even though tomorrow is Sunday, oh crap I've got to take the GD for new shoes. Well Monday will be busy.

@ everyone else who gardens.

Tomatoes coming up. Also planted some seeds that were from 2014. Soaked and checked some Okra seeds in some paper, to see if they were still good. After three days could see some sprouting so planted them too. I don't know why I bought two packages of them though. I won't plant that many. It will be interesting to see if they're still good next year.

Will be watching to see if the other seeds I had sprout. Will have more varieties of tomatoes. Found I had some left over Rutgers and Red Calabash seeds.

Oh no, we are crazy. Just not the scary creepy dirty coop with starving birds type of crazy. We are more the sell birds at just enough over cost to raise so we can keep fresh in the fridge of our friends and still feed ourselves. By today's standards we are crazy simply because we are not out for profit. I vote to feed those we can for as little money as possible, in fact one of our "customers " won't be paying money at all, she will be paying in fruit from her property. One will be paying with work on our property. I'm not greedy well all need help and we all need food. Why not trade one for the other. That's why most consider me crazy, because I barter.

Honestly why not barter though? Rancher your a bit older than I am so your body doesn't hold out to the cold as well as mine. I'm a busy mom of 5 who always needs something to keep the kids busy. You have piles of debris on your property my kids could clean up to save you the work, you grow fresh vegetables and have fresh eggs that could save on my grocery bill. Just an example, sadly you are way to far for my to trade my time for your veggies. If you were closer though that's what we do. I have a lady who loves our eggs that makes the best bread, so sketch gives me a loaf of bread for a dozen eggs. Works out great for both.

So yes we might be a bit crazy in the fact that money only gets a person so far, but loyalty and friends get you the rest of the way.

@Tab's chicken obsession sounds like us. Two yrs ago we were in Home Depot buying new outside doors, the ones on our house were over a hundred yrs old and cold. I was checking out a kitchen cabinet display, manager walks by and says 'you want it $500, today only, have to get it out of here to make room for more refrigerators'. Mentioned it to the wife, our kitchen was really crappy. She said no, not now. We left. Then she says even if we bought cheap cabinets, two cost $500, I told her the guy said the counter alone with built-in sink was $500. Drove back and bought it. It was one of the high grade setups, crown molding and everything, $6,000 setup complete for $500.
Ruined my summer though, we completely gutted the kitchen, walls floor everything.

I got two of those about 10 years ago. Nice runs of cabinets and they went in my last house! Awesome blessed deal!

Our house is circa 1850. Everything turns into a big project.

If we had run into a deal like yours Beercan we would have done that too!

You should have seen the number of layers of wallpaper over the lathe and plaster and the layers of flooring we removed.

Lol... My farmhouse is like that. Every owner added their layer. As it became crooked they shimmed it and added more! 9 wallpaper layers . Even the tub surround was 3 surrounds deep. Ugh! Get a pry bar and a lot of coffee and a dust mask

This is all good stuff! No crazy there ! I would rather trade any day and maybe what someone is offering I need more than cash.

Hello all. So is it possible to build a chicken coop with whole pallets? And without cutting anything? I have no knowledge of carpentry.
I would say yes, but it depends on the pallets. If the boards are really widely spaced out, you might have to go and get some to fit inbetween. Also if they are really banged up, I'd replace somt wood. And BTW, if you can get to a Home Depot, they will cut boards for you. The first 2 cuts on any board/plank/wood of any kind are free, I think it's 50 cents a cut afterwards. If you can measure out what you need, they are a huge help. Probably smaller lumberyards could help too with that.
