NY chicken lover!!!!

Hello everyone and thanks for the warm welcome!
we are new to raising chickens. On Good Friday we went to our local TSC and got 6 Isa Brown pullets. They are brooding in a kids pool in a corner of our family room! I threw together a coop using some decent scrap lumber I had left over from work.
We can use any help in our new adventure and any hints or tricks you other GREAT New Yorkers have to offer us.

Chicken people are weird though...

You call me weird like it's a bad thing.
I HATE STUPID RUSTY NAILS!!!

I was working in my garden and found one of those fantastic rusty nails leftover from the 70's then the house that stood there burned down. Ahhh, I found it with my foot. Blasted work boots are crap and now my foot hurts and is swollen. All patched up and back out to the garden I go.
If you foot is swollen it needs to be seen by a doctor. EVERYONE who works outside needs to keep their tetanus shot up to date. Doc may recommend a booster. DO IT!

Though I expect there are more than a few people who wish I'd get lock finger er jaw.

Seriously folks please don't mess around get that shot for the entire family if they're gardeners and outdoor types.

Oh its a bit worse than I thought. I am at the walk-in waiting now. There might be serious damage. The nail went almost completely through my foot. On the top of my foot there is a small bruised spot where the nail hit from inside. Its discolored and HURTS!!!! Sadly Prozac is not a pain med just a "be nice and calm down" med..

I agree with every one else about the tetanus update Chicken girl 15. Wow sorry to It's as serious as it sounds. Keep an eye out for infection. Sounds as tho someone needs some BETTER boots. Good luck with your injury

@Chicken girl 15
Yep, please get an updated tetanus shot if ur out of date (8-10 years I think). Tetanus the illness is really horrible & I wouldn't wish it on anyone. Not even those crazy politicians, well maybe... Nope, not even them.

Welcome!!

Did you get a chance to go through any of the coop building sections? If I could give you any advice it is to build it as big as you can afford and spend the money on hardware cloth secured with screws and washers. I lost my first flock because I used that crappy plastic chicken wire. They need light and ventilation in the coop. Most of all enjoy them! Chickens are awesome. You will find some amazing people on here with some amazing breeds!!! If you have questions ask away-
