Sorry but I sold some chicks in the spring for $1 each. Nothing now though. Gotta check with me in the spring. Only have two hens to get eggs from but they're nice girls.

I would just like to help clear this up. I thought the same thing until one of the regulars there explained it to me. The commission is $1 per box or cage. If you put all birds in the same cage you pay less money for commission. The price per bird still tends to be the same. Although you are more likely to sell as a pet if boxed separately. I go and look for pets as do some others so it is not definite that they are just sold for food.

Rancher-some questions.....What is a blow down? Branch/tree? instead of wires, could one use netting that goes over berry bushes to keep the birds out?
Talk about crazy...I removed the lattice off my back porch and placed that on 5 gallon white buckets around the chicken pasture. The other group of chickens are currently on my front lawn with access to the underneath of my front porch and my front overgrown flower bed. good thing I don't really care what my neighbors think, most of them already know that I am b bit nuts!
Thanks for the input,
Ginny

I just got ann email from jamie matts that the coblleskill show has been cancelled due to devestation by floods.

I got that email too. He sounded really dissapointed. No Colby chicken show. Talked to my neice that lives in Carlisle and she said that they now have water where there has never ever been any before. Sad situation over there. Going through kids clothes and toys to bring over. Kids in the shelters could probably use a game or 2 as a distraction.

They have some beautiful birds, however, none of which I need, I am still looking for some Lav orp pullets, maybe I'll find some at the Sept 25th show. I'd even settle for a couple of LF Cornish game if I can find them. --- Their Chocolate Orpingtons Are really pretty, BUT- I can't afford 100$ or more per bird at this point in my life.

Arent those lemon orps beautiful? I"d love some. There have been some eggs & chicks for sale on, I think, either featherbid, or bidbird lately.

I did see a juv. pair for sale in June on rarebreedsauction.com

Edited to add: It is a sad situation about all the flooding. This is where you know what kind of people live in this area. Almost every town and city in New York has been collecting to help these people who are our neighbors. I am happy to live in such a caring place. God bless the people and their beloved animals affected by the floods.

I have woods and blow downs to me are skinny trees or branches. 3-4" around or more 8 feet or more long. What every works. I just figured any type of "grid" that would block preds from flying in and landing or taking off. You could use a series of T bar like posts strung like clothes lines too. As long as you can get under them. You can modify to whatever works for you.

Or better yet a grape arbor with wild grapes would be cool too.

As for the Lemon orps. I would be more leery of buying from one of the sites rather than a private farm like Green Fire. They are nice for sure but like I said I can't afford 12 chicks by myself. So if there is anyone considering going in on an order with me start saving your change. You could also ask family to donate to your greenfire fund for holidays and birthdays.

Oops, Forgot to say that it was Greenfire Farms that was selling them on that site. (I know, just the most important part, right?)

Well I've been thinking and I thought that there may be those who would be open to a trade. Pullet for Pullet depending on what you've got. I like to keep a mixed flock. What I hope to have this spring are Dels and most of the orpingtons and Br's. Now I have someone for the BCM's and SLW's but if you think you might have something to trade contact me in the spring or let me know what you think you might have.
