NY chicken lover!!!!

I might want some birchens also to add variety to my breeding pair. Not sure yet, but would that be a possibility? Where do you plan to order eggs or chicks from?
maybe 3 or so?
laurelmeadowsfarm I'm on their schedule for April eggs. I'm only doing one hatch this year and I have a proposed ship date of 4/18 for 12+ eggs ($62). If I have an average hatch I'll get 6 or 7 chicks. I really only want 1 splash chick. I'll bring the extras to chickenstock. Rancher, you're welcome to pick up your selection before chickenstock. Baunlee, I won't know for sure what I can offer until they hatch. I'll ask $10/ chick. If I get a great hatch (>8 chicks), I'll lower the price to $7/chick. I'm not trying to make money on this deal, but I do want dibs. I want a dark-egg gene carrying splash-colored chicken.
I'll keep you posted on delivery and hatch. If it's a poor hatch, I still won't charge more than $10/chick. Does all that seem reasonable?

Edited to add: these are blue birchen, so I don't know if they're what you're looking for.

@PhoredaBurds I have to band everyone as I go so I know who I can cross. Matching bands means don't mate. I even have my broody hens labeled. There are 3 that steady want to brood. Is now to early to let them?

I envy everone who got some work done in the nice weather. I had to somehow go and get a nail stuck in the tread of my sneaker and then managed to jam it into the ankle of my other foot. It was real painful for a day or so. Could hardly walk. I thought I was going to need medical attention, but luckily it getting better. I cant wait to get some work done this week while the kids are in school.
Shouldnt you get a tetnus shot for a nail in the foot ? Or is that just for rusty ones

Its a little early ..do you have brooder in the barn or outside ? if in the barn it would probably be okay if they dont have a ton of chicks they cant cover

If my broody started this early I would definitely limit the number of eggs - but let her sit. I'd set her up in the crate so eggs couldn't be added.

You know, for some reason I didn't even consider cleaning the coop with the nice weather. A tea for the garden is a great idea.

Good lord be careful. You are much to important to us to not be. I hope you've gotten your tetanus shot. Folks if you don't remember the last time you've gotten a tetanus shot call the doctor, asap.

As a kid I talked so much my mother was always poking me with rusty nails hoping I'd get lock jaw.................................she never liked me.

Absolutely agree, Rancher. The first thing I do at my annual checkup is ask if I am due for a tetanus shot. They look at me funny until I explain how many scratches and punctures I get with building, putting up fence and handling chickens in a sea of poop and mud. I stepped on a nail a few months ago and was glad I was up to date. No doctor's visit since it was very clean looking, but I did call to confirm I got the shot late last spring and it was for 3 years. Not a good thing to neglect as it can cause a lot of grief that is so preventable.
