NY chicken lover!!!!

LOL, this is my first year with molting chickens.. The aforementioned OE's that I am trying to rehome are doing a bit of a 9 month mini molt (which I would have never known about without looking at this forum), but they essentially look OK except for a few missing feathers here and there, making them look kinda scruffy. One looks like a tailless chicken.

But I had to bring in one of my production reds (15 months) to clean off her poopy rear and feathers are just falling off her at warp speed!

I walked through the house to my isolation cage in the sunroom (I am going to worm her also and make sure her droppings are a-ok) and feathers are all over my floor, the sunroom, etc. Wow.

Maybe I'll have an entry in that molt contest after all.

If my olders are going to molt, they need to get it over with before the cold weather kicks in!

We have 18 Silkies and get 5 to 6 eggs daily. The last two days we got 3 eggs each day.

I just sold 9 hens and had just wormed them. I use bands to tell who got wormed since I have all Dels in one coop. Probably have to do that with the BR's too. I am in the mist of considering selling everything and moving to AL for the winter but I haven't decided whether I want to give up my chickens.

DW suggested I take the van and drive down. I still couldn't take chickens since my family doesn't have a set up for them, nor neighborhood.

I've been waiting for someone to play devils advocate but that hasn't happened.

Anyhow if I decide to go I'll post it here.

Rancher: Oh no you don't! I can't imagine you going to AL without your birds. You have so much time invested in them. Besides, we would miss you on this forum. Who would make me laugh?? Who else besides me would think it is cool to have a raspberry hedge double as a fence? Hope that helps you stay or at least have a place there for your chickens to play.

Hi everyone:

Made it into our destination area Monday evening and can I say WOW this part of New York is BEAUTIFUL... oh my word it was a breath taking experience driving this east of Oklahoma.


We were able to see the house we had been eyeing before we left( a old farmhouse on 15 acres) and happy to report that after making an offer on the home yesterday the sellers accepted our offer this morning so we are under contract ....



Lord willing we will be calling THIS place home

on November 30th and soon will be in the poultry business come spring but until then we are calling the Econolodge Home here in watertown.. lol

havent connected yet but I am sure we will, we are excited and pray that this is the home that we are meant to be in, we are realistic in home ownership and have been through the good, and bad and hope this is our awesome one.. ha ha ha

I know I cant wait for chickens, I miss my flock so much I dont know how anyone could not have at least 5 ... i mean come on they all each need a buddy right... lol
