I have Lavendar Orpington chicks hatching out like popcorn. My lines are from Rocking paints & Hinks with a little English Orp thrown in for more size & fluffiness..! I love, love the English Orpingtons...
I plan to take them to the Ne Poultry Congress in Springfield, Ma. January 14th. but I'm not opposed to selling some before then!

They have become my favorite breed, friendly, almost too friendly, unless you like chickens standing on your feet, then its ok.
And, they are the most prolific egg layers of all my breeds, and that is important!

Haven't heard of it, however, if you go, please let us know how you like it.

PS if you ever go to Sharon Springs, go to the Black Cat Cafe.....oh so yummy food there.

I could do the Black Cat - my niece and her family live in Carlisle. We also happen to have this week off.

I've just been catching up. We've been on the go for the past 2 weeks and DH left the computer at our Aunt Ginny's on x-mas. I hope everyone had a great holiday.
We've had some chicken loss this weekend during all the craziness. Friday when I got home from some last minute shopping I found the bird in my avatar dead in front of the hay loft. Something hit her with enough force to drive some of her innards out the tail vent and feathers were lost, but there was no blood really. Then this morning DH comes in and asks me when the last time I saw Blue Boy (straight comb BLRW). He's gone without a trace. I went out and really looked at the flock and noticed that a buff brahma bantam hen is missing also. We've never had this much trouble with predators. I'm going to ask my brother about borrowing his game camera. I want to know what animal is responsible and deal with it. I don't like losing my babies and not knowing.

Oh, these guys are beautiful! I have buff orps and I love them. But I wouldn't mind some of these! Maybe closer to spring? Where in NY are you located? I am in Steuben County.

Tab - I am so sorry to hear of your chicken loss! I can't imagine what that's like....and I don't wanna imagine! I'd vote yes on the game cam as well. We were getting nervous last night because we heard a pack of something (coyotes probably) howling forever. Thought they were under the window!

InHis - Congrats on the peeps!

Marquisella - Beautiful chick! I'd snach one up if it were the spring. Is that a BCM egg in your avatar? Do you breed them? I'll be looking to hatch some out come late Jan/Feb and I'll need eggs.

I'm in Vernon. I will probably be selling eggs in the spring. I have hatched so many already....
