NY chicken lover!!!!

ohhh it is so tempting. I think my wife will hang me... but.... Black Australorps and D'uccles....... ohhh boy. My Grandmother is 100% French, and got quite a kick out of eating the D'Uccle eggs I got in trade from Cass last year. hmmmmmmm.

Here is a picture of our Austie boy Midnight-very handsome and friendly fellow!

If Loverboy, her Sumatra roo let another roo near her.

Going to try to post a picture....

Midnight sunbathing

Seems like it took too long. Had to open a new tab, go to profile, right click picture and copy the URL, go back to this reply tab, click the pic icon and paste the URL in the URL tab. Seems LONG!

I will be selling chicks starting the beginning of March. Hoping to have Partridge Chantecler's, Black Australorps and Porcelain D'Uccles. If you are interested let me know! Save on shipping!

OHOH, I want some D'uccles. I am especially interested in a roo. Can I order 3 girls and a boy? Ok, I'll take 4 straight run. But I hope only one is a boy.

NOTHING bothers them. We went out and slathered Bag Balm on the boys' combs and wattles this evening, as they all have some degree of tissue damage (poor guys). My third-in-command has the worst case - he has a dark band now under his tips. His comb is warm to the touch throughout and he shows no sign of discomfort when it's handled, so I think it's superficial. At any rate, we finished with him, and he promptly got down and began dancing for a Faverolle as though he didn't have goop all over his comb. I love Bag Balm - it's a great product. There - now they can say it's pharmacist-recommended.

Southern Rensselaer/ Northern Columbia county here. Have a mixed flock but loved our Wyandottes and Partridge Rocks. I'm putting an order together from McMurray but can't handle all 25 chicks(the minimum). Would anyone like to split the order? They'll let you order single chicks from any breed, just have to total 25. I'm looking to keep about a dozen and order them for March. Thanks for reading this!

*waves hello from East Nassau* Another neighbor - love it! You know, my sister wants to get into the chicken-keeping business, and I'll probably end up buying her her first chicks and raising them for a few weeks. If you can't find any birds you want locally, I'd be interested in splitting the order with you, as thirteen or so chicks would be a decent little starter flock for her.

Oh, and welcome to our merry little band!

*edited because I evidently can't tell the difference between "from" and "for" right now*

I may be wanting a couple of Australorps and a Chantecler or two from you. I also want some of Rancher's Delawares. The coop is huge - why not add a few more?

Oh Stony, you have to get some D'uccles. There are the most wonderful breed. Really. If you decide to order some from Happyhensny, I'll pick them up and bring them over....you can pay me for gas in Sumantra eggs.

I really LOVE my D'uccles. They are very friendly, talkative and wander around the place like they own it. Definately have "short man" disease....they rule the roost around here. And the tiny eggs are WONDERFUL as deviled eggs in the summer....the kids LOVE them, really. And now that they have finished their molt and are laying again their eggs are comperable to "Small" supermarket eggs.

The Black Australorps? Not sure about those. They are large fowl so they lay large eggs...that's a plus I guess. I'm not going to make another coop and mine is already full, esp if I get 4 more banties this spring. (I am reserving the other side of the coop for the Sumantras, when I finally get some hatched) But if you want to order some, I'll stuff them in the box with the D'uccles and bring them over to ya.

I used to have some Aussie girls from the hatchery. For some reason those and the GLW's just couldn't keep them feathered. They were good layers just either ridden hard by the roo or picked on by the others.

Right now I'm concentrating on Dels. , BRs' and Orps, and SFH's and Birchen marans. I think that's about all I can handle. Perhaps 10-12 hens each and a couple of roos each.

This is the response I got from Phil Shanks in Iowa concerning my search for better Dels. I'm going to be concentrating on developing my Dels to a meatier bird. When I hatch I'll be replacing half my flock with new girls and be offering the other for sale cheap. I'm building two new half hoop coops for breeding two lines.

I’m sorry but I am not aware of anyone in this area breeding Delaware poultry. We have not had any entered at our Eastern Iowa Show for several years. You may try Duane Urch, MN, 507-451-6782, check with www.randallburkey.com or the Ohio National Poultry Show.

Rancher: Let me know when you want to sell your Dels. I have a freind wanting to start a flock this spring. She may be interested, who knows? I would like to be able to encourage her to get some quality stock tho.

Weather: Started out biting cold, then warmed a little, then a blizzard (on the way home of course). Now blowing damp, cold, humid wind around and next we will get some freezing rain (1/4 inch or so is forcasted) and then regular rain and above freezing. Humph! Can't make up it's mind, can it.

Chickens: A little unhappy with the weather, but enjoying all the new hay to play in. They don't seem upset that they had to stay in today, but they have lots of room to scoot around in the coop. Water was frozen solid tonight. They were happy to have new, warm water.

Time for bed. Starting not to care what I write or how it is spelled. Better to stop before there is a typing "oops".

Good Morning everyone! I don't understand this!? I don't get the new posts sent to my email...so I am always behind!? I think we got snow last night...I was hopeful for a snow day! My DH built 3 of the cookie tin heaters Sunday night...they work great..and much cheaper then the round thing at TCS...we did but them on a Thermocube. Couldn't see leaving them on if not needed. hahaha

I will be hatching and offering Light/Coronation Sussex Chicks and eggs. The line is from Green Fire and Rocknpaints. I should also have Bantam Cochins. Blue or Blk Mottled I hope.

This is a long shot...does anyone know of a Black Male Pug who is available for breeding. I have a female I would like to breed and can't seem to find a male..Thanks for any thoughts.

Enjoy the day
