NY chicken lover!!!!

Rancher need some advise on hatching. We are going to put two hens and one rooster in a pen.
take the eggs and check if they are fertile.

Then take the fertile eggs and put them under a broody hen. YES?

What comments? Thanks Aria

Rancher, Did you get your CR from Yard full O rocks? His birds look nice. Growing up in the East Coast of Canada and being in 4-H, CR's were one of the few available breeds. In Comparison to the other birds that came through the Ag Department, they were the nicest/Meatiest of them all.

Since I have separated my birds into pens, the ones in the Pens are not laying that well. Out of the nine I moved, i get 2-4 eggs a day. Is this normal until they get acclimatized to there new digs?

Have a good day all.

Chris

Cdney83 - I gotta tell you. I was in Barnes and Noble yesterday and they had a childrens book about a Pug and a Chick. Very cute. I will buy it for a friend at another time but you might like it.

Framac - yes I did. Second time for eggs. First batch didn't turn out good but such is life. I am hoping these are meaty. We shall have to wait and see. Yes it is normal for things to settle down. I'm beginning to wonder if taking the two frizzles out of the Del coop are what's throwing them off these days. Even the deduction of one bird can upset the pecking order., but then I'm sure you know that.

My first day of new hours went well. Most people asked how it was being up at 2am. I told them it was nothing new when you have little kids, its just the staying up part that's new.

It was really blowing outside earlier!

Glad things went well. DW decided it was not good to have Darcy on an overnight this weekend since last weekend she was up at 4:30 am. You forget what it's like to have little ones after a few years. I was surprised cuz DW is the best and she gives alot.

Speaking of frizzles Mr. Tim...I believe that mine laid an egg! I'm gonna bring it over along with the EE eggs and let momma hatch them out...if that's okay with you of course....

Sure that's how I do it. At least the putting the eggs of my choice under a broody. I've got one right now and she's about to get some EE/Amer eggs from Trylin. I usually pull the eggs I don't want and stick some Dels in there.

I've discovered using one of those "head lamps" is best cuz it frees up both hands. The light is not so bright as to upset the whole coop. I move and do everything like that at night and in the dark. I got mine at TSC.

It has three degrees. The first is bright, the second is dimmer and the third is flashing like a strobe. I use the strobe when I go out with the disco music and watch the birds do the Funky Chicken.

People keep saying "we're gonna get it" and I'm thinkin yeah you will if you don't shut up. I hate snow.

Rancher, THANKS. I will wiat until March. I have one of the head lights. We go
Campaing and we have fun with the head lights at night.

Looking forward to trying the "hatch". Thanks again for your comments.

We have learned at lot reading the forum. Regards, Aria

Speaking of frizzles. I have some eggs out of the frizzle I got from you rancher in the incubator now. I believe she is buckwheat's daughter. What are the chances the babies will be frizzle? 50/50?

You can't talk any more than I do. I lived in Ithaca for many years .Left 1985 and moved to Long Island. People here think I'm very strange raising chickens in the back Yard.I do love them though. Queen
I've finsished candling eggs. Of those shipped from GA, (Columbian Rocks) 10 seem to be developing. Of the others Dels and a few EE's 17. I'm really hoping the CR's hatch. The Dels too of course, but more so the CR's.

Trylin is going to give me some EE's for the broody in the coop. I never am successful in breaking these girls so I might as well let her have it her way.

Hope everyone enjoys the snow.

Queen and Shellz - FYI I talk alot. I have a T-shirt that says, "Help I'm talking and can't shut up". Not really but I should.
