NY chicken lover!!!!

A friend of mine lost most of her rabbits in the hurricane too. :( Sorry about your chickens, I lost half my duck flock the other week to dogs and I just sat down and bawled. Loosing stuff just stinks. :(

I'm having a pair of Bantam Choc Orp started Roos shipped to me later this month, only I don't *really* need two, just figured it would be the same to express two as it would one, lol Anyone wanna split the order with me?

Anyone have any Black Orps or Black Silkie pullets/hens available?

Miss Lydia, I'll try to put up some pix of Mom and kids. And would welcome guesses as to what kind of chicks they are. I asked for Buff Orpingtons, and that is what my receipt says, and they were adorable fuzzy little yellowish chicks. But now they have dark areas showing. Am hoping for juvenile feathers being different??? Then turning into lovely blonde, sweet tempered reliably laying BOs.

So What d'you think?

Hi everyone!! I haven't posted on this thread in quite a bit!! Not sure if any of you saw my pictures from Hurricane Irene, but we lost everything. Every structure on our property was actually swept away by the water. None of our belongings survived, much less our chickens. :( A huge bummer since above all, I love my chickens like they were my kids, and second because they had only been in there new coop a few months, and most were just getting old enough to lay. So here I am, 6 months later, in a new home, with a new chicken coop under construction. I ordered chicks a few weeks ago because I simply couldn't wait anymore, and having them here just makes me happy! After talking with Cass (she bought some silkies off me last spring), she suggested I post here and see if anyone is interested in the "extra" chicks that I cannot keep from my order, and if anyone has any hens that are closeby, at a decent price.

How sad - glad you're OK, though!

My BO girls were always natural blondes. Granted, I only have experience with the three of them, though.

7 pips and a zipper at 9. I WILL sleep tonight...

When hatch day comes I take a sleeping pill. It's the only way I can keep from coming in and checking every hour.

You know I can't keep up with all this posting. I'm old and my arthiritis is killing me typing. So short version.

Let em out and then the freaked and there was that nasty Hawk again.

Will post pics of the hoop coop that is taking far to long to finish.

Sold 10 del chicks yesterday.

typed in Backyardchickens and got a bunch of other sites and forums under the name.

Sometimes I open two windows with the forum so I can go back and forth if there is a posting on a back screen I want to cmment on. Like you all should care.

I got home from picking up my girls and the internet was down. No clue why. I was thinking what a bummer because this is my time to check things out on the computer before DH gets home (his time to check things out). I just caught up. Whew!
Congrats on all the new chickies! We have 10 new babies too.
Good luck to all those working on projects.

I hear you Rancher. hatching is VERY distracting.

i have found with Hawks, of you run them off enough, they finally give up. At least that has been my experience.

I just set up the brooder. I can't count how many have hatched so far. 11 or 12? Hard to count them in the bator, plus when I look in, they FREAK out, making it harder to count them.

I feel your internet pain. My DSL has been in and out for almost a month now. (You can tell when it 's out, cuz I have no posts for 10 hours or so) Pisses me off, cuz I pay really good money for DSL and I am NOT getting the service I am paying for. (All these problems started after oak fell on lines during Irene)

I have 2 eggs in my eeny teeny bator....all it holds is 3 LOL....and they are getting heavier. I am not going to bother to try to candle them, they are blue....most people can't see through the blue shell, even the people who know what they are looking for and I have NO CLUE what I am looking for.

We get our internet through the cable company. It goes down every once in a while, but not as often as when we had it through verizon.
Your first hatch is always a thrilling experience. Best wishes from me.
