Tab,
I was obsessed with blue eggs at the start. THEN I learned that Ameruacanas are NOT reliable layers. 2 - 4 eggs a week at peak. BUMMER!!!! Now I am keeping 2 Ameruacana roos and am going to breed my own EE, trying to get shades of green, blue and teal in the eggs of the offspring. (this of course assumes I ever get another broody hen sigh) Have your Ameruacana's ever laid "well", meaning 5 eggs a week?
my Ee's lay ok. But they aren't 6 day a week layers. 4 to 5 days a week though. I hatched, and am hatching more EE/Sumatra crosses. Most of my Sumatra hens lay 5 to 6 eggs a week, and a few lay a blue egg anyway. Doing the experiment to see how many they ay, size of egg, and frequency of the eggs. I like my eggs for sale to be many colors.
now my best egg layer currently is a young RIR who lays an egg for at least 20 days straight, and then takes 1 day off, and goes right back to it again. I have some of her eggs in the bator now, hoping they all turn into hens like her!
