NY chicken lover!!!!

Sorry to hear about your trouble Framac. It's always a hard call. I find that the sooner I make a decision the easier it is as they are more fragile first thing.

Itsy, I can only imagine your frustration looking for the little thing.

I had a small game hen get out and thought she was lost, actually I thought she'd be ok but I didn't find her inside at night. She did turn up the next afternoon but I have no idea where she spent the night.

Now I will mention that I have a hen that has been hiding in the nest box at night and when I go to take her out she screams bloody murder like it hurts her. She is bare in spots as some look at though they are molting. Anyone got any ideas?

Seven of us on tonight. Must be Monday TV is no good anywhere.

I borrowed Mr. Poppers Penquins from the library.

DW is watching Inspector Lewis. Also from the library.

Have a good night,

which auction are you going to and when ?? I would love the roos!!!!!!!

You guys are making me want to hatch, BIG TIME! I have nothing to put in the 'bator!

How long will it take my new roo to fertilize all the girls? I've seen him mating with a couple, so that pleases me.

We have 10 girls and are getting 6-7 eggs a day on average. I have a Mille Fleur D'Uccle who hasn't laid for months and months, though. I've seen her on and off the nest, so I hope she's thinking about laying today.

1-2 days

Java girl - no just "mixed bantams" usually Silkies...

There is an auction in Greenville - JP's North

Thanks all for the thoughts on the raised beds.

The chicks are sold - to be picked up on Wednesday and the rest Thursday. Sweet!

We had Texas A & M Quail and loved them until they got eaten through the wire on the cage. 1/2" x 1" spacing. Traumatic.

Our new Pheasant is learning that I am "Supreme Treat Bringer" She had grape tomatoes and green pepper bits today and actually came out from under the Christmas tree she like to hid in. If she is half as friendly as the male I will be thrilled!

Stopped at the Cortland TSC to see what was in the tanks. Ducklings, brahmas and cornish cross, some 1 week old. Nothing else. Store was quiet so one of the employees pulled out a duckling for my daughter to see, which she promptly grabbed in a choke hold. After rescuing the little duck, she happily petted the little fuzz ball and then got to pet a chick. She was thrilled, but trying to leave is always interesting. Did manage to get a brooder lamp and red bulb while there. At this rate it is only going to take forever to get everything!

My BLRW (the one in my avatar) is apparently a streaker at heart. I found her saddle in the run tonight, and she's in happily sitting in on the roost, butt nekkid except for her feathers, the little exhibitionist.

The ducklings are going to be put in my handy-dandy dog play yard pen in the garage tomorrow, as the little brats are already getting crowded in the 40-gallon stock tank. I'm impressed by how fast they grow compared to chicks.

I was reading a post on unusual/innovative brooders on the Meyer Hatchery Facebook page just now. One woman said that she uses sheets of pegboard zip-tied together. That's brilliant - you could make it as big as you needed, pegboard is cheap, and you could take the whole thing down and store it flat when it isn't needed. Gotta love chicken people - we're creative!

I have these. Added them in Jan. Those and Birchen Marans. If you do get some let me know so I can get eggs to add to the group I've got. Not sure how the deep the line is in these or any of them. I've to 3 hens and 4 roos. in the SFH's.

I don't know your husband so don't worry.

That was what I worried about with the SFH and the Cream Legbars, lack of genetic diversity. I keep asking the folks selling them what their thoughts on the Big Picture of the breed is, but no one has answered my question, lol I would set the extra Cream Legbar Roo over something if I knew what that something should be, one of the original that went into the breed maybe?

I set up my Ameraucana breeding pen and of course, now I like the Rooster that is NOT in the pen better! Maybe I will just swap them out after I hatch a batch?

Bloomfield is near Canandaigua Lake, about 45 min south of Rochester.

What color SFH did you get Rancher? Pics? I think I like the Reds the best myself, and crested. Are there similar issues in breeding crested chickens as there is in ducks?

Thanks for the condolences on my quail, guys! My boyfriend went outside tonight and happened to look in one of the raised bed gardens where there's some rye grass growing. Who did he see? The little tuxedo dude eating some grass. He slowly walked over to him, but the bird flew off again! At least he's managing on his own. I hope we catch him, though!

InHis - I'm jealous! Not one egg yet. They eat/drink like pigs. I'm ready for them to give us some eggs! I should sex them and clip their wings. I have a feeling that now the one tux is gone that I only have 1 female in there.

Oh a happier note, I'd like to share with you:
