NY chicken lover!!!!

New BYC layout on my iPod is freaking me out.... Got to relearn how to get where I want to go. Welcome back Rancher. At least this weekend is calling for warmer temps to thaw out those hoses. I still got one laying out too. Feel better Featherz. The NYD hatch was tempting me too much, so I stopped following the thread. Don't have an incubator anyhow.
Got several pumpkins that were used as decorations at work. Hubby gave the chickens the first one this morning, said they come out of the coop and were picking at it. Ron was talking to the girls to bring them over. Hope they like it, got 9 more of various sizes.

Tethers, that is autocorrect for you, I know a mid twenties phlebotomist, but she is here in Syr. I can ask if she is interested in relocating! I went to see the doctor yesterday, and have been successfully fighting a cold. The fellow I saw said he's losing his fight. We conversed by him whispering, and I had another fight not to mother him and tell him to go home.
Rancher, welcome home.
Am on standby to perhaps go to NY for the Red Cross...

I hear ya featherz... I've been up since 3am, sick sick sick, and can't take the day off without great difficulty, figured I would just suck it up and go. so good luck to both of us!

the gang has been "stuck" in the run all week ~ I use quotations as the run is really quite nice and I don't feel all that bad... but they haven't been outside since Saturday, and it looks like it will go the full week, the next opportunity for them to get outside will be Saturday afternoon. At 6:30 this morning, when I brought out fresh water and a refill on the feed, the egg song was going strong, I love that crazy loud and proud song! it's pretty much the only "neighbor audible" sound the girls make. I sorely miss my afternoons with the gang. by the time I get a day off, I will have worked 4 months straight, with the last full month being full of double routes and 100 mile routes, leaving just past daybreak and returning in full dark with birds settled on their roosts.
On Thanksgiving Day, I had 3 live bird deliveries, 1 auction chicken pullet, and 2 racing pigeons. there is a maintenance guy at my regular office who has racing pigeons, he's quite serious in the sport... I overheard him talking about one of his competitor/friends getting his birds on Thanksgiving ~ said some "guy" actually was out delivering - I stepped out from my case and said "was it so and so in the city by the mall?" and he said yeah... how did you know? and I had to tell him, it was "no guy" who brought the birds... it was me. he's now all puffed up about being able to tell his buddy that he knows the lady who brought his birds... the auction pullet was a surprise gift from a Grandpa to his granddaughter. that was a fun stop. the whole family was super thrilled to receive her considering it was a holiday, invited me in for a plate of food... too cute, had to decline of course, but it was very sweet and the house smelled wonderful!
my chicks are due to arrive next Tuesday! I have scheduled a short day deliberately, won't do a double no matter what. I'll drive to Albany first thing in the morning to fetch them, get them home and in the brooder, then head to work, I should be back home within 5 hours to play with and photograph each one!
it's something to really look forward to!

welcome home rancher!

Okay...back from the meeting. Apparently 5 years ago you didnt need a permit for chickens. Anyways, the complaintent wasnt even there and the people who have said 6 chickens had to provide all kinds of pics and drawings for the planning board. Now they get to wait 60 days for an answer. Really??? There were supporters there, no disenters. I guess, according to the person who runs the board, they have been receiving more complaints about noise and/or smell over the last couple of years. We shall wait to see how this plays out and just fly under the radar for now (although its hard to miss the big coop). Guess we will be reducing our flock in the spring but I was going to do that anyways. Our neighbors are all good with us having them and the roosters so hopefully things will stay quiet (so to speak). Just seeing what people have to go through, not just for chickens, to do anything on your property, is rediculous. Thats all Im going to say.

Oh---not all I have to say. Welcome back Rancher! Hope you got dw a nifty gifty for all that work she did for you!!! (I dont think an order for hatching eggs or chicks will do it either!) lol
I am zoned agricultural, so I can have animals, however, to build a "horse" barn I needed to approval of my neighbors. I could have built a large "tool" shed and legally put horses or other legal animals in it . There was a stupid law about a "horse barn!!.. Maybe if you put a sign on your coop that says "tool shed" or"Santa's workshop" it will help you stay camouflaged!!

On both your points.

I was complaining about trees being cut down near my DS house while I was in AL to the folks on the AL thread and was told that in AL they don't like a lot of government and having it tell them what they can and can not do with their land. So they have to put up with those things. DIL did say that they could have chickens where they are.

Now as far as DW is concerned she's getting the new sofa she's been wanting. The color and style she's chosen. A sleeper too. For when the kids come to visit. A bit more expensive than I'd like but, such is life.

LoL, woke up this morning and my voice is completely gone (upper respiratory infection). I feel fine but today at work will be verrrrrrrrrrrry interesting, especially since I work as a triage nurse and spend all day on the phone. I'd call off, but that's a day of pay I'd have to eat PLUS we are short two people already. Wish me luck lol! :)

(hey, anyone here a phlebotomist that needs a job? must be able to clear a mega federal background check)..

Still haven't decided whether to do the NYD hatch - don't have any eggs lined up, but I always have fun running into my 'hatching room' while watching the festivities to see what little peeps made it out. :) Anyone else doing the hatch?

My poor chooks haven't been out of their coop/runs all week - by the time I get home, everyone is roosting. =(

When I left AL some of the kids were sick with something. I keep a thing of wipes near the computer, since there is only one and wipe it down before I use it.

vmdaniel - It's nice to be home. Now to get things back in order. We left the lid off the scratch can last evening and I found four mice in it this AM. Not to mention it's nearly empty. I just tipped it and let them run out. Over 50# 's of scratch and boss used up in five weeks. DW doesn't set mice traps. I'll be working on that for the next week.

I've got to make one with the bucket and water. I'm sure to find how on Youtube.

Thanks for the welcome back everyone.

Is there anyone interested in getting any Birds from Dick Horstman? I am going to be placing an order with him for a mid February delivery I hope, and wanted to see if anyone else was interested.
