NY chicken lover!!!!

Tethers, that is autocorrect for you, I know a mid twenties phlebotomist, but she is here in Syr. I can ask if she is interested in relocating! I went to see the doctor yesterday, and have been successfully fighting a cold. The fellow I saw said he's losing his fight. We conversed by him whispering, and I had another fight not to mother him and tell him to go home.
Rancher, welcome home.
Am on standby to perhaps go to NY for the Red Cross...
I read on the other NY thread that you are going down state!! You deserve a gold star and a pat on the back! Let us know how it works out!!

Stony--thanks for the input. I am hoping she will be broody in the spring,

Rancher--I have rir and the roosters are quite tasty, especially if they are getting on your nerves! Going to eat one tonight for dinner. Now as far as the two boys I have left, they have proven their worth protecting the girls from the hawks and such. They arent real noisey and have learned to respect me after I caught them with the fishing net and pinned them down. They never have challenged my husband ever. They are big boys, but like I said, take care of the girls real well. I remind them every once in a while that their 5 brothers went to freezer camp for misbehaving and were quite tasty so they better watch their step! I am hoping to get some nice chicks come spring and maybe a good son or two for replacements. Girls are consistant layers for sure.

Hard day today. My fathers birthday (he would have been 69) and my parents anniversary today (would have been 50 years). Missing him terribly.

My bad. I had forgotten that Firefox does not always work with certain sites. I switched to Explorer and printed it off just fine.

I've had this problem before and forgot to try it with Explorer. I do like Purina and just used up a bag. So more will be nice.

Pyxis - losing birds left and right? That is not good. Something is wrong and must be done to stop the loss.

http://horstmanspoultry.com/ has rosecomb RIR's and I expect I'll order eggs from him. If half hatch that will be good. Though I honestly don't know what I'll do with the roosters. I'm leaning to switching to rosecomb birds though I've not had a Wyandotte as a good layer.
My luck last year on Shipped Eggs was not that great. 48 eggs, 9 hatched, 2 pullets. I can get a dozen shipped for less than I paid for the 4 dozen eggs. My Wife is in Favor of getting Chicks and not eggs also.

If anyone is interested, I'll be placing my order the first of next week.

Pharm - you have my sympathy. I remember something I read at the beginning of a Maya Angelou's "I know why the caged bird sings" she says.

When ever I think of those who passed on, I try to remember the heritage they left me.

This may or may not be exact but my understanding is that your father, left a part of himself with you and that part of him should be your focus. I know it is.

Good luck!!!!
Thank you very much. I'll keep them in mind if I get meat chickens this year. But all this talk about zoning laws has me rethinking. The city of Cohoes was one of the first cities to allow BYC in city limits. They spell out what is allowed and what isn't. No roosters, no more than 9 chickens and they can not be free range. I have 6 hens now and they are confined to my entire yard which could be viewed as free range to someone. But they've never left my yard which has 6 ft high fencing and my dog keeping everyone safe. All of my neighbors get eggs for free whenever I see them and I've even given eggs to the fire department and code enforcement. Really I'm not trying to bribe anyone. I just like giving away my eggs and you can never have too many friends. I hoping that more people realize that BYC owners aren't trying to run a poultry farm and are just trying to be more self sustaining. Who knows maybe years from now we'll be viewed as being trend setters.

Anyway, thanks again and sorry for my verbal diarrhea.

LOL!!! I'm hoping (especially in the spring) that all our extra eggs will go to the local food pantry. I hope they can accept them. We do sell them from a cooler in our driveway, but often have extras when people just don't stop. Not in it to make money... just help pay for the feed!

Welcome home, Rancher!
