Just found out I won an auction for a dozen Olandsk Dwarf hatching eggs! Local too! Are they from anyone here? The name on FB is

All Flocked Up Farm

We are so excited. They are cute, tiny, spotted birds. Hoping to pick up the eggs this weekend.

They are wonderful. Remind me of the D'uccles I got from Featherz, in coloring at least. I can't wait to hear what size egg they lay.

I don't what is about the hawks that the crows don't like but I stepped outside last week and heard a lot of squawking coming from up above and as I looked up I saw a crow going after a hawk as they were both flying above my house. That crow would not give it up, I don't know what he was upset over but he definitely made his point! I've also been seeing a lot of turkey vultures flying around as of late. But they're more of a scavenger so I don't think I have to worry too much about them attacking my birds.
crows will attack hawks. At least my personal experience is having crows around won't keep a hungry hawk away however.

A friend of mine had a turkey vulture fly down and pick up one of his small game hens.

I don't know. I have lots of crows daily and a few ravens even. And I still have hawks and the rare hawk attack.
The crows and the ravens feed right along side the chickens.

This brings me to a recurring thought / concern..... I keep reading how big a threat wild birds are as a bio-hazard to your flock (avian flu, etc.) and wonder how free rangers deal with this issue, if at all? Even though my coop will be completely enclosed with small diameter (opening) wire, there will be some parts where birds will likely perch on the fence or near it, and I'm sure there will be some cross contamination. I was also thinking I am going to have to move my bird feeders. Right now they are about 30-40' from my coop.

Mderby,

Sorry to learn this sad news and for what your family is going through. In my fantasy world, I would spare everyone the pain of watching a loved one suffer and then having to say good-bye.
