NY chicken lover!!!!

I would not have been so upset but I spent $180 for chicks
Wife would kill me if I did that. Then again I am already looking online for some chicks. I just hate that I have to order so many chicks when I only want like 5 more. Oh well will just have to build the coop a little bigger than I wanted and maybe a side coop or two later.

Picked up a couple of chicks from a breeder in CT on Saturday. He had a (dead) weasel hanging from the fence of his chicken run. Apparently this will keep other weasels away. Has anyone ever heard of this?

I have to brag here....not to change the subject, but I just hatched out my first, home bred Lavendar Wyandotte! I did it myself...Now, to get it to live so I can get eggs from it, hopefully its a girl. I have a few more eggs in the incubator, so far, 1 lavender & 2 black splits to lavender.:weee

Congrats!!! That sounds exciting! I love the color lavender! (In case you didn't already know ;-) )

sounds like silliness to me. People like to put human emotion and reasoning onto animals. We are not built the same. Weasels are killing machines. I HIGHLY doubt a dead rotting weasel hanging on a fence will do anything but stink

Across the street from the red apple gas station on 290, by Freemont Road. It's in a plaza with a Dollar General, ARC of Onondaga and there is a Tim Hortons in the parking lot.

I buy the noble shavings for my horse, in bulk so I'm just going to use them for the chickens too.

As for being on sale they just had a sale on them, I get mine straight from Noble themselves so it's cheaper. Actually the whole barn puts in an order and they deliver about 100 or so bags to us at the barn. Very nice guys at Noble.

Isn't there a Country Max on the same road as TS in East Syracuse? Is this the same one? Maybe I'm thinking of a different store. I went there once last summer.

Nevermind, it is the same one, just looked it up.

3ft wide, 8ft long and 6ft tall coop big enough for 15ish chickens? Should I make it bigger? I don't want to use the whole shed (yet) but I don't know how much room I should have.

I am glad that maybe in some little way I could finally give you something of value to help with your set up!

I hope I don't have to use my storage for future coop space! Must NOT become proficient at chicken math....must NOT become proficient at chicken math....

Rancher, where is Country Max located? Do you know when they might have shavings going on sale?

Thanks. The "poop chute" design for quick clean-out was the hubby's idea. I loved it the second he mentioned it.

Hope something good comes to you in the way of job leads, Rancher. Don't worry. Things will work out!

I was thinking the same thing. I nudged my DH and said "WHAT the hell is that?!!!" so he asked what the dead weasel was for and received the warped explanation. That's when I said "Let's go..now..." Needless to say, we took our Black & Blue Orps and left. He was a little off that's for sure~

Anyway, good shot!
